There have been a few threads on electric fences recently and just thought seeing as I have one myself I would try and help out. Here are some electric fence units on ebay that would be suitable for around the loft. One is mains operated, one small dry cell (torch) battery operated and the other is solar powered. If you have a power supply near hand then I would recommend the mains one as you would not need to change batts etc. I would think the solar one would be fine if you remember to clean the panel regularly. I have a fence which runs off our mains powered horse fence and I just thought maybe some people are not too sure what and where to buy. If you need any help regarding your fence then you can ask away and if I can help you out I will. When an animal gets a kick from a fence it sure doesn't forget it in a hurry.

Its not up atm Damian.  Here's a pic of the box thingy.  then its just a case of running the wire from the box then back to it to complete the circuit, the wire passes through little insulator thingies which screwed into wooden posts.  You only need electric fence signs if it is on a public footpath.  Can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't much....

The "box thingy" is your energiser. Your fence connects only to one terminal, the earth stake (spike into ground) connects to the other terminal. The thing that completes the circuit is whatever comes into contact with the fence i.e. a cat, fox etc. They make the circuit conduct through their body to earth and back to energiser this is what gives them the boot up the backside. I've had a few kicks myself and beleive me it is discouraging, he he!
