Guest beautyhomer Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Hi Samantha,I used to show German Beauty Homers until work got in the way.I am still the chairman of the the breed club and now judge at shows to maintain an interest in pigeons.I was judging at the Anglesey Agricultural Show earlier this month where I made a West Of England best fancy pigeon. Regards Andrew
samantha Posted August 31, 2005 Author Report Posted August 31, 2005 I would like to go to a show, are they held at a particular time of year? I jointed the northern counties flying tippler and tumbler society, but I have heard nothing from them they dont have a website, I imagine that they have an annual show, but all I have is one of those fabric badges your mum used to sew onto your swimsuit! If you know of any fancy pigeon shows in my part of the world I would be grateful if you could let me know about them, thank you beautyhomer for your reply.
martinalison Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 If you go to the following web site and subscribe to this monthly magazine, you will find all the show dates & secretaries names, addresses etc. http://www.winckley.co.uk
mealybar Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 The British Show Racer Society has a list of major shows and some society shows, http://www.pigeonbasics.com/brsf/
Guest beautyhomer Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Samantha, The show season runs from September to the end of January. This is when the birds are at their best, between finnishing the moult and the start of the breeding season. In the summer there are usually pigeon sections at the agricultural shows.I never took these as seriously, using them for pen training as well as showing the general public fancy pigeons. In the show season, shows can be split between club shows and championship shows. The latter attracting the top fanciers from around the county.Club shows near you are Bradford,Newcastle and Nottingham.Of these Newcastle and Nottingham also hold a championship show open to anybody.Nottingham is held on the 28th of December every year. Hope this helps Andrew
samantha Posted September 7, 2005 Author Report Posted September 7, 2005 Andrew this really helps, it is exactly what I needed to know, I wanted to know how they are organised, so when you say club, I presume you mean a breed club? or a number of breed clubs? who organises the Nottingham show? and do you need to be a member of that club/clubs to enter? or to go? (see Im in the dark!!) (my 3 birds are in no way show quality, but I would like to see birds that are, and one day breed some birds that could be shown) thank you again Andrew this is really helpful
Blue Chequer Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Samantha, Most of the clubs cater for all breeds, I have a few Pomeranian Pouters which I have shown at local Agricultural Shows during the summer but they are not at their best until after the moult in the Autumn. I am a member of the Newcastle Columbrian Soc. which is based and hold their shows at Darlington. My main hobby however are the racers. If you get onto the Feathered World site as you have alreday been given the details I am sure you will find a breeder near you who will advise you on how to go on. Best of luck, AS
Guest beautyhomer Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Samantha, Looks like I have made more questions than answers. The governing body for the hobby is the National Pigeon Asociation (NPA),all shows are held under their rules. All birds entered in a show must be rung with a recognised ring. There are both breed and general show pigeon clubs. As a rule breed clubs do not hold their own shows but have one in conjunction with a championship show. General fancy pigeon clubs ie Nottingham,Southport hold club shows for the benefit of their members. These are run by an elected committee of local fanciers. Championship shows are endorsed by the NPA where "challenge certificates"(5 are required to make a pigeon a champion) can be won. These are open shows so anybody can enter these. Is Stafford too far for you to travel? This is a very good championship show to visit with lots to see apart from pigeons. There are more trade stands here than at other shows. The show is run in conjunction with the poultry club of Great Britain national show so there are poultry, waterfowl and even canaries to look at.I will be judging the Beauty Homers on the Saturday morning, but then I will be free to answer any more of your questions. Regards Andrew

Guest beautyhomer Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 No rush Samantha, the show is not till the middle of December.Until then if you have any more questions, just ask. Andrew
