Hi Samantha,

I took these photos at Nottingham show: a nice show, good atmosphere, friendly people and nice pigeons. I don't keep Oriental Frills but I have a few German Shield Owls, I mainly keep Spanish pouters, some photos of my birds here:

Thanks Samantha,

These are  German Shield Owls in the first photo, nice little birds and good breeders, they don't have any problem raising their own young whereas Frills are a bit too short in the beak. There are different sorts of Frills; Satinettes and Blondinettes as well as a number of other markings known as 'Domino' 'Vizor' &c...You can find out more about Oriental Frills at these pages:

This picture shows a Blondinette:

I quite like the german shield owls, do you allow them to fly out? many breeders of fancy pigeons I have met never let them out,

also why would being short in the beak make them unable to raise there own young well?

So am I right in thinking that oriental frill is the breed and sattinete and blondette is the colour or marking? ( will look at the links but I think I already have them bookmarked in my browser, from a while ago)

sorry bout all the questions but I think fancy pigeons are fascinating thanks Graeme

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Jimmy, there are some very nice fancy pigeons out there and some of them are good active fliers. I fly my birds Samantha but not everyone does, they can be quite vulnerable and at a disadvantage. Some of the short-faced breeds have a problem raising babies, it's not so much that the parents have trouble feeding, its more a case that the babies have difficulty inserting a very short beak into the parents'. I guess the beak is a particular length for a reason!

You are right about the Oriental Frills, the different markings are sub-varieties.

Best wishes,

Graeme

No worries Samantha,

Always happy to talk pigeons! I can spare a young pair of Owls so if you are interested let me know and I can take them to Nottingham.

Oh I would love a young pair of owls Graeme, but my loft is really small, and I have just offered to take in a pair of indian fans that a (nasty) man was going to kill at the end of september, so until I get my loft extended I dont want to overcrowd the birds, Im really dissapointed! but can I get in touch when I have my bigger loft?   they are so pretty!! ??)
