zetlandlad999 Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Arkangels have had a name change, they are Known as Gimples now, there is a triving club for them in the UK. Try N.P.A website
Guest beautyhomer Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Archangels have not had a name change. The Archangel is a colour variety of the Gimpel family, namely a Copper-black Gimpel. This confusion was brought about when the original birds were imported and given the name Archangel. When other colours were imported the breeders did not recognise them as the same breed so they kept the name Gimpel. The debate for including all colour varieties in one club has been going on since at least the 1930's.Archangels had their own club whilst Gimpels were catered for in the VPC. At last members of the Archangel Club have agreed to adopt the Gimpels into their club but it is currently proving to be a slow process due to continued resistance from some members. Andrew
