Ok here is one pair could you give me an idea of what to expect?I dunno about the parents as they was both bought in as young birds. As a side note i only paired these as there my second best pair from my results.

The mealy cock in the second picture has black flecks on him,I assume the other one has them as well.Is this what you mean by a dirty mealy? There is no grizzle gene present in either of these birds. The black flecks show us that they have one ash red gene and one blue gene.Ash red is dominant over the blue so they are red in colour.

When paired to blue checkers they will definately breed red and blue checkers in both sexes. If the hens are split for checker and bar (checker is dominant) you will also be able to breed mealies and blues.

Thanks Beautyhomer yes the black flecks are what i was calling it a dirty mealie for.

I must also appologise to Din for hijacking his post a bit. Will the pied in first pic have no bearing on the colour.Sorry to sound stupid i just cant get me head round it.I will have another read of that site that tell's ya how to understand it.

Research is still ongoing into pied markings. In fancy breeds different pied markings have been found to be dominant for some and reccesive for others. To answer your question I would expect some of the young to be pieds but could not guarantee it.

Khaki is a dilute brown, the picture that you have posted looks more like a silver which is a dilute blue.If the blue cock is not carrying a dilute gene all you will breed are blue hens and blue cocks but all of these cocks will be carrying dilute.

:-/

Most probably it is a Recessive Opal.

However Indigo can give a similar apperance, but as this is a dominant gene it can be easily tested by pairing to a blue.

Andrew how do you tell the diffrence? :-/ :o :B

Is the grizzle a red or a blue? Personally I would not pair these together because it will affect the quality of any young grizzles produced.

showing doos is good fun but before you post what I have quoted you should make sure you know what you are talking about. I have had a few great racers from just such a pairing.

enjoy your doos!

I was refering to the grizzle markings when I said it might affect the quality of the youngsters not their racing ability ::)

How do i post pics .It says my file size is to large.

Hi, you have to get file size down 750kb

(check remaining file attachment space), in ATTACH FILES

check file size of picture, try cutting back megapics on your camera in future for ones you want to post

Existing photos if you can scan them and reduce the file size that way

Hope this helps if not email me your important photos and I will reduce them
