Its never nice to be criticised for arranging a sale of this type. Unless you have undertaken one, then you can never appreciate the work and time that goes into sorting it all out. The sale itself is probably the easiest and least time consuming of it all. The real work is before and after.

From an organisers point of view, communication and updates after the sale as as important as the sale itself, as this is the bit that counts. I'm sure most will want to know where their money has gone and to know it has got to where it is intended. Just because the sale ends does not mean the organisers work has stopped.

Very true Mick, and only today I have had a query from "Johnny s" regarding his donated Lot 55 on the HFH sale (3 months on) :D:D

I hope a lot of lessons will be learned from this ;)

What I cannot understand is PM bids, I don't like them whether it is on a forum of a live auction room as it allows auctioneers to bump up the prices and increase their commission on a sale

I'm not sure there are a lot of lessons TBH. At the end of the day the sale being organised is only as good as the person organising it, so admin either allow it or not, based on what they know.

The one thing that should be insisted on, is full name address and contact numbers of all those involved in organising the sale to be displayed on the thread, if its for a good cause there is nothing to hide. They insist on it in any press adverts, so why not on here? And in fact in any type of sale, including private treaty sales.

As for PM bids, i'm not a fan either, but every bid should be recorded and if asked for by admin, submitted. Every bid we received was recorded. I agree it could be open to abuse, but on the other hand how many would bid if they could'nt use PM, and at the end of the day every small bit helps.
