Hello everyone.  I am very new to this forum, and new to pigeons.  I was just given my first pair of frillbacks.  They are good birds, the cock is exceptional, and while the hen has some faults she is still young has a lot of growing to do and we are confident that she will cross well with the cock and produce some very nice youngsters.  Anyway, I had a friend out looking at the birds and she noticed that their bands were high up on the leg.  She moved one down before I could stop her and explain that the breeder put them up there so they would not damage the birds’ muffs.  Unfortunately, the band that was moved happened to be on the hen and she is very skittish and flighty and I have trouble handling her.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can move the band back up without hurting the bird?  I am thinking I should try to move the band when the sun starts to go down, because the birds seem a lot calmer then.   :)

No forget about trying to get it back up, in fact it shouldn't of being able to move back down. U say the hen has faults so if you feel the ring is damaging the pigeon cut your loses and cut the ring. It will obviously mean you cant show her but if you reckon the cock is a good bird concentrate on  him for showing

Thank you for the input.  I did not band the bird, so I can't say why it was able to be moved, other than the fact that she is still young and growing.  Her only major fault is her color, she has too much white and some bronzing on the underside of her wings.  Otherwise she is a nice bird.

Actually my friend who judges pigeons got the band moved back up where it belongs.  It took a little work but it really wasn't hard.  She said that she always banded the lower leg because the band should be loose and if it is on the lower leg it won't move around.  In other words it was loose enough to move back up.   ;)
