My birds are far too moulty to take to a show, they'd get laughed at! ;D ;D ;D, I just concentrate on getting them through a stress free moult at this time of year, ready for the show season proper.  :)

Nope ??)  January bred youngsters have just dropped their last flight, but they are in a severe head moult at the moment.  I have later bred youngsters dropping two or three flights at a time, so by the time the show season starts in October , they will probably match the older youngsters, and I have late bred youngsers just weaned. :)

I like to get as much showing in as I can so I show for about 9 months of the year just cos I enjoy it.You are right the moult is a big problem just now in the adult birds but I can usually still find a few in good feather, all the YB's are fine and the judges do make allowances at this time of year as everyones in the same boat.

Must be cos I'm in Cost del Kent, that keeps my birds moulting, not alone on that one other fanciers down here are in the same boat.  Do one summer show in June then thirteen during the winter months, so certainly get about a bit.

What breeds do you keep, show racers?

Had show racers until 3 months ago when I parted with my entire stock, well I still have one pair of b/ch's and one rec opl cock, which I shall cross with one of my rollers to get the rec opal colour in rollers.  kept show racers for about five years.  Have got Show Rollers which I've kept for the past 30 years, also got a few English Short Faced Tumblers which I've kept for around 20 years.  I don't show those anymore, but maybe................

Find it fascinating crossing a different breed in to enhance the quality,it's something I have been experimenting with myself this year with my show racers, hope you enjoy the forum :)

I have a friend who is big into colour genetics, the science stuff, gives me a head ache really, but I give it a go and leave the science to him!  I've now introduced indigo in chequer and bar into my rollers and are show quality.  I'm sure I will enjoy the forum thanks ;D
