Guest Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 a few sites of interest peckedhen http://www.whiteracers.20m.com/photo4.html http://www.geocities.com/sudiloft/ http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/1562/ Snowy - I've seen it, a very good site, and they're from America, Thailand and Australia. the white pigeon with a Pearl eye is very nice and i mostly see White pigeons had a black eyes, not Pearl,
carl Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 This is not a logan but i will show yous anyway. My white racer bred from two chq white pigeons. This bird has scored for me and is never far behind every race..
snowy Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 the first 2 racers i had bred for me by a local was beauties cross logans, both flew off & never came back, i was gutted.
Guest Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Liked the thread on Virgo. Definite Kirkpatrick, seems like these birds have been winning 'down through the ages'. Don't think anyone can take Virgo's performance away - irrespective of race conditions, at 380 miles, it still holds the young bird distance record. Compare that with the tragic results of the recent 400 mile yb race. I understand white is a pretty difficult thing to breed. (Well jist look at oor White, JW for example ;D ) . Don't think its a straight forward genetic job. Whites and near whites that I get are from white grizzle x blue bar pairings. Ben, you can be forgiven for thinking 'such & such" was a grizzle. The bird can change completely during the moult. I've a white grizzle who was all white except for a black fringe to his tail. Unmistakeable in flight. He's now a blue grizzle, powder blue wing shields and tail. Another white grizzle has remained mainly white, with light red faint bars on the wing. The red colouring comes originally from a mealy, and these white grizzles (a cock and hen) in a certain light, both look pink. The stock grizzle cock and one of his red grizzle sons, again in a certain light, also appear to be mealies. Now you know what's up when I'm overheard asking myself who the f* is that? :B
snowy Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 peckedhen, i have got to phone a local this evening , he breeds white homers, i will keep you posted,
Peckedhen Posted October 26, 2005 Author Report Posted October 26, 2005 Are they Logans Snowy? It looks as though I got mine just in time. I'm really enjoying them and, although they have never been handled before, they are much less skittish than my previous birds. They already eat from my hand but, boy do they fight! Hardly the gentle creatures I was expecting! ;D :
rlez Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Hi Jimmy, Virgo certainly was no champion, just because the yb nat birds had a stronger wind up their ass the further up country they went that day, fountainhead lofts should know better, but i suppose some people will say anything to make money,by the way, virgo was a grizzle, withSplash of red Just another 1 hit wonder,a true champion`s prove themselves time and time again, especially when getting off the deck to win. hi .would you class chris gordons pau winner a fluke they were up in south wind rlez
Guest ben Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 hi rlez, I see you do not study the national races,if you look at my posting on this site the morning of the liberation from Tarbes ,(after moving from Pau)you will then know the wind was AGAINST the birds at liberation,Then turning to South along the channel, and stronger as the birds moved upland. This quite simply helped some the longer flying birds put out better velocities, whether Chris Gordons bird was the best on the day is anybobies choice, but as i put then and do now,it`s about time the longer flying fanciers had a chance to get up the top end of the result. Wind will always play it`s part in any race,Virgo had a good helping wind up it`s a** the day it won, another day virgo would have been a also ran,so there you go.
mealybar Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 The winner is the bird that has taken its chances, however they come, thats why it is a worthy winner. There will always be bird(s) with the top few that have few a bit further, into a 'harder' (only someones opinion) location on that day; these birds made the best of what they had, and are also good birds, but the winner is the one who made the best of what he had, and theres no taking that away from him.
Peckedhen Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 I am gutted! :'( One moments stupidity...................... I was working on the sputnik, left it open for less than a minute without thinking and my lovely new birds have gone! :'( :'( I'm soo angry with myself as well. > It's unlikely they'll return to their old loft as they were not flown. Please keep your eyes open for me, I've posted the numbers on the Lost Board. :-/
Peckedhen Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 And, I know you're all probably thinking 'STUPID WOMAN' !! That's just how I feel myself, so please don't say it. :B
snowy Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 peckenhen, dont be silly, we all make mistakes, ive made absolutly loads when i first started, my two logan crosses, i let them out the third time in very very strong winds! then i was asking myself? why have they flew away?? :B :-/ :'( that was my stupid fault! plus many more, everyone learns by there mistakes & by alot of people on this website! ask anyone local who keeps pigeons to keep an eye out. good luck.
jimmy white Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 pecked hen , thats not stupid, dont be so hard on yourself, who knows that bird may just return to you ,who knows, i hope you get it back one way or the other, good luck anyway [by the way weve all done that]

Peckedhen Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 Thanks folks. I feel better knowing that !'m not the only one who has lost birds. I wish hubby was as understanding - he's just thinking of his pound notes flying off into the clear blue skies! He says he'll fix ball and chain to my next ones! :
Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Well, Peckedhen, you've a long day ahead tomorrow, hope for a half decent day and have a box of 'calm-me-doon' pills for your nerves - I wouldn't wish this job on anyone. I doubt if your birds have gone far. Reckon you've had them since last Friday, and they've been in the sputnik, so hopefully they'll have half a fix / some idea of their new home. Get the fantails out first light tomorrow, weather permitting, and for once hope they do a bit of roof hopping. Try and keep them out all day or as long as it takes to get the others down from the sky. If your Logan's are still in the area you'll see them criss-crossing the sky looking for home. If they do cross the garden, call them 'down' the same way as you do when you are feeding them. Seeing the others in the garden or on the roof will also help bring them down. You'll soon find out if they are homing pigeons, and whether they have brains or not. BEST WISHES
Peckedhen Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 Keep everything crossed for me Bruno. :-/ I'll need it!
westy Posted October 30, 2005 Report Posted October 30, 2005 my dad just got me 2 white logan squeekers. they are lovely
Peckedhen Posted October 30, 2005 Author Report Posted October 30, 2005 I've looked at your photo Westy, yes, they look great - just make sure you are never as daft as me and leave the loft open! One of my birds has come back, just as Bruno said, they were flying around and I kept trying to call them down. It didn't trap, it spent the night in our house gutter but then Bruno told me to leave the loft door open and a trail of food leading in and, in it went and onto a perch! One down three to go!
