Guest Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I Guess women more that guys are guilty of this, but I like to give a pigeon who has done well for us or displays special characteristicts. One of our birds is known as Periscope as he always stuck his head out of the dowels in the carrying basket to look around, his 2 2005 kids are known as Microscope and Stethescope. Lets hear your favourite names and the reason you gave this name to your pigeons
snowy Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 one of my pigeons is named "SIR JIM" as i got this young bird off "jimmy white" & the grandsire was champion "SIR COLIN"
Guest Silverwings Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 had one with a very nice name " ISLES " a bloke said to me why have you given your pigeon a daft name like that ? i told him the bird had a week out and came back covered in oils ?

mealybar Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 The Lone Ranger; had only one old bird racer flying to my loft in my first season racing. My clubmates nicknamed him, that year he went right down the road to the Maidstone National (245 miles), which is a combine race, 25,000 birds, so he had to come alone to do that He went out to Lillers the next year, and kept coming well (others accompnied him this time ); got him out as a 3yo and lost him training from 12 miles :'(

Peckedhen Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I thought that I'd name them by the alphabet so that I would know how old they are. I started with Albert and Agnes (buy now think that Albert may have to be Albertina;D) Then came Betty and Bertie, Carla and Carl but they went back so it all went pear shaped. I now have four white Logans which I can't tell apart so the poor things are nameless! :
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I just bought a bird named Chocolate Thunder I have some grizzles Dusty, Dirty, Dingy, They all looked as if theyd been in the dirt as young, my best bird Tuffy 63 he went 10 of 11 weeks hit sheet everytime and was best in club
Guest Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 When I was in a racing partnership we used to name them all, so we would both know which one we where talking about e.g. James Bond (ring numb. 007), blue-nose, big blue, Long Neck, Mr reliable, Grunt. I still have the odd name for some, but its not the same racing on my own. Ive just got a hen of Jimmy White, so all her offspring will be named Van-White 1, Van White 2 etc. LOL
