Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 copper didn't know a thing about it, not even the french ban so there you go! but he asked me to shut my pigeons in, to keep the neighbours happy???????? bullsheet I will, I have to prepare for an upcoming race season, I hope. but with crap like this it might be doubtfull! :-/ Know what your feelings are and note what you and the others say too, Jason. But I think the police advice should be taken for the time being. No point in fanning something which may get out of control. You would also be doing a good PR job of satifying the neighbours' fears by keeping the birds in short term, explaining and educating people at the same time that your pigeons are housed in hygienic conditions, can't come into contact with migratory birds and therefore don't present any risk to anyone. Wait till the local paper publishes your story, hopefully showing you in the best light as victim, before letting them out again..
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 dont agree there. there is no ban so why should people keep them in just to keep jo public happy
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Sorry Bruno. I disagree If Jason keeps his birds in he;s bowing to unreasonable pressure, especially by the coppers, they should have investigated the situation fully before they came to him mob handed and only took one side of the arguement without giving Jason a fair shot.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 To take this one step further Jason I would contact the local Plod Chief Inspector and ask him by what authority his Officer(s) had to inform you that you had to keep your birds in. This could just be the tip of the iceberg, someone has got to take a stand now, or Joe and Jane public will be running rings round you all with their paranoia and ignorance.
Guest jason Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 at the end of the day, I don't want to fall out with anyone, but my views are that i haven't done anything wrong and I'm gonna have a word with the neighbours in the morning and take it from there! I have a good reply from the rpra to show them and i've been doing my homework on the defra website,so all should be o.k. :-/ Thanks everyone its been an ectic day for me! ??)
THE FIFER Posted February 23, 2006 Author Report Posted February 23, 2006 I AGREE WITH U IN A WAY HYACINTH, BUT ITS NOT THE PUBLICS FAULT THEY ARE WORRIED ITS THE INFO WHICH IS GETTING SPREAD AROUND, AND THE PUBLIC DOES NOT KNOW THE SIUATION, IF THEY DO NOT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT PIGEONS AND READING WHAT THE PAPERS SAY, THEN THEY MUST BE WORRIED, THE PIGEON FANCIERS ARE NOT GETTING THEIR BITS PUT TO THE PUBLIC, SO THE PUBLIC ARE WORRIED ABOUT BIRDS, (NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE DIRTY CROWS ETC KNOCKING ABOUT THEIR GARDENS WHICH THEY SHOULD BE AND THE DUCKS AND SWANS ETC) YES I AGREE WE CANNOT BOW DOWN TO THINGS WE DO NOT HAVE TOO, BUT UNTIL THESE GET SORTED AND THE PUBLIC GET EDUCATED, THEN WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE THINGS EASY, LOOK AT THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP PARROTS, THEY HAVE BEEN DUMPING THEM ON BIRD SANCTUARY GATES ETC, THEY ARE AFRAID TO KEEP THEM, BUT AT LEASED THE PUBLIC NOW KNOW ABOUT THEM AS A STATEMENT WAS ON TV TELLING THE PUBLIC THERE IS NO DANGER WITH PARROS, AS THEY ARE NOT MIXING WITH MIGATOREY BIRDS, NO ONE HAS TOLED THE PUBLIC THAT RACING PIGEONS ARE SAFE OR LOW RISK, THE PUBLUIC DOES NOT KNOW, AND THEY WILL TAKE IT IN MORE IF IT COMES FROM SOME GOVERNING BODY RATHER THAN FROM A PIGEON FANCIER.
Guest Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 No it's not the publics fault, but any good neighbour would have had a chat with Jason personally before calling the cops in.
Guest jason Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 This morning i've been to see some of my neighbours and shed some light on the subject, they all seem quite happy about it, exept one woman (the one who threatened to call the police , and probably did) so I'm gonna let the young'ens out again and see what happens. It seems they all got out of bed on the wrong side yesterday?????? absolutely crazy, have I broke a law, NO. the police wouldn't come that quick if we were being burgled, and when they turn up, they don't have a clue. anyway thanks for your views and a big thankyou to the rpra and peter bryant, with out all the views on here and the reply from the rpra, It could have been a lot worse. ;D
jimmy white Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 yep. complaint to the cheif inspector, with the proper info, and demand an apologie for the trauma caused to you, and your family

westy Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 STILL HAD NO REPLY!!!!!!! HAS ANYONE ELSE
westy Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I BET THEY SAW THE EMAIL SAW WHAT IT WAS ABOUT THEN DELETED IT.
Guest Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I'm glad things have quietened down Jason and pleased that you were able to calm your nighbours fears. Brilliant and 'weel done'. Wasn't on-line at all yesterday, that's why I haven't posted again until now, but I'd like to explain a bit of my thinking behind my post, and centres directly on the police advice ... because that's all that it was ... advice, and damned good advice!!! Even not being there it was evident to me that this incident could escalate out of control and develop into something VERY nasty. The police were on the spot and have a wealth of experience in public order issues ... Breach of the Peace to you and me. Obviously they thought the same thing and their advice was to remove the thing that was likely to lead to a breach of the peace being committed, and so calm things right down. And that's exactly what we need just now .. keeping things reasonable and calm, especially between pigeon people and their neighbours. And with respect Hyacinth, had Jason adopted your high-hobby-horse attititude 'Who are they to tell ME what to do' (THEY including the police) would have led to a few folks getting hurt and some bunking overnight in the Cop Shop and appearing next day in Court charged woth public order offences ... now if THAT had been picked up by the TRASH National Dailys .. what then for the rest of us? Again, Jason, WELL DONE !!!!!
Guest jason Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Thanks bruno , its all sorted now, i've cleared it all up with my neighbours and if anybody has any problems like this, don't go wadeing in, it doesn't help, I just had a quiet word with them (after the police had been) and now its all sorted. once again thanks to every one.

How about doing an article on this experience for The Racing Pigeon and the British Homing World, Jason? I'm sure if you PM'd it to Fifer, he'd get it published in the RP; email address for BHW is editor@britishhoming world.co.uk: if you get it off Sunday latest, good chance it will be published in next week's editions.
johnny11 Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Jason I could do the bhw if you wish, but will probably be afew weeks before it appears John
westy Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 i am lucky so far had no complaints of locals.
THE FIFER Posted February 26, 2006 Author Report Posted February 26, 2006 WOULD GLADLY PUT IT MY COLUMN FOR THE RP, JUST E-MAIL IT TO fifernews@blueyonder.co.uk, IF U WANT ANYTHING IN ANY OF THE WEEKLIES QUICK SEND IT TO THE NEWSPAGE. BUT AS SAID I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEWS ETC, FOR THE RP.
Guest jason Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 It seems to me that your all thinking I'm some sort of hero (putting it in the r.p. and the b.h.w.) all I did was sort out my neighbours fears with pigeons and avian flu and I couldn't have done it without help from you guys (pigeonbasics members) or the R.P.R.A. THANKYOU TO YOU ALL. ;D
Guest Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 It seems to me that your all thinking I'm some sort of hero (putting it in the r.p. and the b.h.w.) all I did was sort out my neighbours fears with pigeons and avian flu and I couldn't have done it without help from you guys (pigeonbasics members) or the R.P.R.A. THANKYOU TO YOU ALL. ;D You were brave enough to take the first positive step, Jason. I'd picked up last year that members were VERY afraid to speak to neighbours about pigeons and avian flu; even tried to get a discussion going on how we might best go about that. Also personally, took all sorts of flak on the main thread about 'me' being the cause of lofts being burned down; neighbours children falling ill being blamed on pigeons, etc, etc, yet there was nobody willing to give an opinion on how an incident such as the one you found yourself in, might be best handled, or better still, prevented. In my opinion, the sooner your experience is widely publicised, and the quicker pigeon people see that being 'up-front' is the best way to go about things, the better. Much more positive than keeping schtume, pretending 'avian flu doesn't concern me or pigeons' while worrying yourselves to death that one day there'll be a knock at the door....
Guest Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Bruno I don't think my attitude was High Handed at all, I hope the Police in The UK still have the training and discipline to hear both sides of a story before making an judgement on a public order issue. Jason had done nothing wrong and from what I read in his posting the Police told him to keep his birds in "to keep the neighbours quiet", totally one sided, would you not agree Bruno.
Guest Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 I think everyone can learn from Jasons experience. A simple thing like printing out and making a folder of bulletins issued by Peter Bryant regarding H51N and keeping this handy to show dissenting neighbours, would be a step in the right direction, rather than having to deal with the Cops. At the end of the day it is up to the individual fancier to take steps to protect his/her pigeons at grass roots level.
