letting young birds out

at what age do fanciers let there young birds out for the first time and what time of day is best.

is it a disadvantage not having any old birds to bring them back to the loft when they first strike ?

as soon as they have been on their own for a couple of days they need to start going out. see the surroundings etc.

aarden, I let my young birds out as soon as they're weaned, twice a day morning and afternoon but I use open door trapping, so when I go to the loft I open the doors and clean out while the young'ens are walking round the garden, having a look round.!

I wean at 23 days and have them out at 30 after a weeks trap training with the bell

i used to put them in sputnick, as early as possible, especially, IF we get a bit of sun ,handy to get all the boxes cleaned out, im sure they enjoyed this and at least could see a bit of their surroundings

I give tons of open loft so I usally let them go out on their own when they figure out how to get out the have no problems getting back in

a tip  place youngs birds in  crate   12 feet in front of loft    it   works they then know  what outside of  loft looks like  when they get airborn

From the day they are weaned I put them out in a crate every day weather permitting and give them a light feed and put a drinker on. then put them on the landing board to find their way back in

after a few mistakes,

its best to let em out b4 they can fly, & keeping them hungry, out in front of the loft & they run back in when you throw some corn in shaking the can, then slowly further down the garden each day.

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, LETS THEM KNOW WHERE THEY ARE BEFORE THEY WANT TO TAKE OFF, ALSO SUN AND FRESH AIR IS GOOD FOR THEM AFTER BEING ENCLOSED IN NESTS, ONCE WEANED THEY COME ON LIKE MAGIC.

:-/ ;D Hi Aarden i let mine out as soon a poss, weaned over 24 hours later thay are out with a bath, ;D to me its the streach of the wings is whats needed,as that can not go nowhere, :-/ apart from running back to the loft,as thay have no the power in the wings, :-/ yet to allow them to fly to the house roof let alone the loft roft, this gives them a good look about the sky, & be awear what preditior are out there,so the soomer thay are out walking the garden flapping there wings, the confident, thay become.Its like the old saying" dont run before ya can walk.Jusy my opion mate Speck. ;D ;D ;D

we put them outside in a pannier ,so they can see the loft from the outside ,and on the top of it for a week ,watch the cats and hawk situation though .....ray

I put mine over 26 days, let them out the next day, when i did they walked  around the garden they even had a splash in the bath, put a sputnick or aviary on the window they will sit there allday looking around,and you won't lose many if any i never have, good luck aarden
