Peckedhen Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 I have just come across the most distressing case of cruelty. Im Middleton, Manchester, some ba$tard is ripping out pigeons beaks condeming them to a slow death. The RSPCA appear to be doing nothing about it. Some of these birds are ringed. I dont think this is conected to AI - surely if that were the case the birds would have been killed not tortured in this way? http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/showthread.php?t=14111 Tragic :'( :'( > > > >
big_al Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 WOULD LIKE TOO GET MY HANDS ON WHOEVER DONE THAT , I DAREN'T SAY WHAT I'D DO TOO THEM
perk Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 smack heads or some one sick, both want puting down
Guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Reckon thats more an injury than a disfigurement. Something very like it in 1963 when I had a hen go through multiple telephone wires strung post to post, took her top beak right off to beyond the wattle. She was left with her lower beak and wattle, but no way could she eat or drink and had to be put down. Bird in photo and others said to be like her need to be put down, otherwise slow death from thirst / starvation.
Peckedhen Posted March 4, 2006 Author Report Posted March 4, 2006 Bruno, If it was just one bird then I would agree it could be an injury but there are at least six of them and its happened near Manchester before. http://www.tamesideadvertiser.co.uk/news/s/82/82756_thug_hacks_off_pigeons_beak.html
jimmy white Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 looks like some kind of injury to me,maybe caught in a spring trap, but the birds should be put down, where are the rspb or the rspca, when needed? they should be finding out the reason, for this [ seems that someone has done this , read the paper report after i posted,,terrible]
westy Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 i would pull there heads off and arms and legs and laught at them.
Guest Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 down a dark alley and give the mwhat for like half the scum needs on our streets.
mealybar Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Disgusting. I recon if the TV cameras (the like of animal hospital) were there the RSPCA would have been there within 5mins.
Guest Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Guess if this had have happened to one of the RSPB's precious Hawks, the wold and his brother would have known about it by now. I would personally like to get my hands on the Bar Steward who did this, or should I say my Baseball bat.
Guest Doostalker Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Really stomach churning this. I agree with Jimmy W and Bruno though; it looks more like an injury. The birds need to be euthenised though as they face a slow death. I would think that they are probably feeding at some place where they are catching their beaks and causing severe trauma. Years ago I was involved with a case where several blackbirds were found the same way, then it was discovered that someone had put lots of break back rat traps out as he was plagued by rodents. He failed to put them away out of sight, and the blackbirds were going for the bait and getting their beaks caught. This was in the late 60's, but maybe there are still some folk out there who either haven't a clue, or simply don't care.

Strange business, strange report. Not that I'm going to try it, but I just can't imagine that its possible to pull the bird's beak off. Would have thought decapitation or birds neck being broken would happen first. Then theres bound to be muscle and tendon etc.
Peckedhen Posted March 5, 2006 Author Report Posted March 5, 2006 Some of the birds have been caught and euthanised. It would appear the beaks have been removed with piers or some other sharp instrument. Some birds had obviously been maimed more recently than others. >
Guest Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Pleased to see that the Cops are treating this seriously
rockinrick Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 omg i have seen nothing like it before that is so *expletive removed* wrong the *expletive removed* ass holes need castratin and put in brothel for the criminaly insane lol jus my views,,, rockinrick
Peckedhen Posted March 8, 2006 Author Report Posted March 8, 2006 Things are, at last, moving. The birds are still being caught and euthanised. Today TV crew have interviewed two of the people who are helping the birds, and the RSPCA is now actively involved and have said they will prosecute those responsible for attacking these birds.
rockinrick Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 fking A they should sort it out excellent start to a big prob ( cruelty ) cheers rockinrick
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 omg i have seen nothing like it before ... that is so *expletive removed* wrong .... criminaly insane ... jus my views,,, rockinrick Edited your quote down to show bit I'm picking up on, Rockinrick. When I saw the photo I remembered that the world's serial killers are reputed to have started their sick careers when they were kids - maiming and torturing animals ; so your views linking these people with the insane might not be so wide of the mark as you imagine!!!! ;D

Guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Took the TV to come along before the RSPCA got invloved?? :X Take your point, Mealybar, but it's occurred to me that this sick act has maybe turned the public's sympathy backTOWARDS the pigeon rather than AGAINST it as in last weekend's UK press attacks?? Posted elsewhere ... Ken Livingston didn't really appreciate place street pigeon occupies in public's heart ... until he tried to stop people feeding them AND tried to cull their numbers. Just mistreat ONE and see what happens....
