Peckedhen Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 No. They've not hatched....I'm really grasping at straws now aren't I? What will be the kindest thing to do? Leave the eggs till they realise and come off them? Take the eggs but leave the birds where they are for a while, then move them when I move the young birds and other pairs? Take the eggs and move the birds to the new loft (which is where I want them to lay the next ones)? :-/
westy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 i just went up got the second egg broke it open and nothing inside so they are on crock eggs now
Peckedhen Posted March 19, 2006 Author Report Posted March 19, 2006 I left my eggs till Friday - just in case I'd had yet another 'blonde moment' ( I say that because it sounds better than a 'senior moment') and written the date wrong! A friend who is an avian vet nurse opened the eggs - the chicks were at the point of hatching - yolk sac virtually absorbed but they both had oedema around the back of their head and neck. :'(

Chatrace Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 get a few crushed oyster shells and add to the grit before the next laying and add 10 drops of Iodine 5% in a gallon of water and let them drink it for a couple days also

Peckedhen Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 LOL Jimmy! Hey, I feel a bit better now - so it maybe wasn't my fault! I've read the article on the main site 'Dead in Shell Youngsters' and wondered if it was because I haven't been giving any baths?? I haven't put the bath in since the first youngsters in case the parents got them wet and they chilled??
