Need Some Help, Just getting started!

Hello, all!

 

All right, well... my teacher and I are interested in homing pigeons, or rock doves, or whatever you choose to refer to them as! I've done my research and know quite a lot about them, and then my teacher has BS in Zoology and Botany and is teaching an ornithology class this quarter. I've also designed a very nice loft. But the thing is, we can't seem to find any breeders around. I live in Central Wisconsin.

 

My question is, how can we acquire some pigeons to start out with (we're only in need of a few)? Can we order them? Can we order eggs that was can incubate? Are Rock Doves the only species that has that "homing ability?" How do we get started??!
