westy Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 what weathers do you not let your pigeons out in? (it is multiple choice)
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 To be honest Martin we let our pigeons out in all sorts of weather including snow, as you never know what the pigeons will encounter on their homeward flight from a race, better letting them get used to it.
westy Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 thanks linda that is what i thougth but with ybs if it is windy it will carie them away and get lost.
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 young birds are a lot smarter and stronger than people give them credit for
THE FIFER Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 IF THEY GET LOST FROM THE LOFT WOULD THEY HAVE WON FROM A RACE
westy Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 i mean when they are just about fling to the loft roof.
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I've never lost one yet due to wind, if you loose birds off the loft rood it's usually down to a hawk strike
westy Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 thanks linda it is because today i did not let the ybs out due to the heavy winds because i thougth i migth loose one.
THE FIFER Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 YES U R RIGHT WESTY I GET UR MEANING NOW, IT'S THEIR FIRST TIME UP AND THE WIND COULD TAKE THEM AWAY I AGREE WITH U BAD FOR YOUNGSTERS THAT AGE
THE FIFER Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 CHEERS WESTY, THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN U OPEN UR MOUTH WITHOUT THINKING, WILL KNOW THE NEXT TIME, ALL THE BEST
THE FIFER Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 NO DID,NT MEAN U WESTY I MEANT ME OPENING MY MOUTH WITHOUT THINKING, SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT U MENT IF I HAD THOUGHT FIRST, OK PAL ALL THE BEST,
Guest Big Blue Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 only way ours r kept in is if its foggy other than that they r out
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 THE ONLY TIMES I KEEP BIRDS IN IS IF IS FOGGY AND I ONLY KEEP YOUNG BIRDS IN IF IT IS VERY WINDY MORE SO WHEN THEY ARE JUST STARTING TO FLY UP ON THE ROOF.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 thanks linda it is because today i did not let the ybs out due to the heavy winds because i thougth i migth loose one. Not so much worried about youngsters getting lost in a high wind, as being injured in one: two years ago opened doors thinking 'they'll not go out in this' except one did - even then thought it had 'just' gone up to the house roof - last I saw of it until next day, arrived home with the rung-leg broken behind the bloody ring; Last year, small late bred hen 'overdue' from morning exercise - wind & rain - lady phoned me later on to say she had found bird dead in Grangemouth (2 miles away), she thought it looked as if it had flown into a wall or something.
westy Posted March 28, 2006 Author Report Posted March 28, 2006 lost one today it was a bit windy just hope it is not hurt.
MsPigeon Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Oh... think positive westy, it will be back!
jimmy white Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 im sorry westy i picked you up wrong and voted wrong, i thought you meant what weather you wouldnt let them out during a trainer, ;D ;D my fault, going a bit senile ;D ;D when i raced them i would let them out on most days , but would be carefull with ybs just learning to fly if the wind was too strong, same if it was foggy but when their strong on the wing , theve got to learn about differant weather conditions , providing its not exeptionally bad. :)
Guest Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Just as a matter of interest I put the old birds out yesterday afternoon for a fly. A thunder and lightening storm came out of nowhere which didn't phase the birds at all and they seemed to enjoy flying in the quite heavy rain. The only person who suffered was me, got wet through to the skin standing outside the loft. lol
