TheSaddler Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 For my nom birds I always look for pink flesh and a blood bubble in the keel bone. Can someone explain why this happens? Or what it is? I find it occurs after using some form of iron product - For example Iron Tonic or Johnsons Pigeon Tonic - What are peoples opinion on this? I've also seen these bubbles explode and create a dark colour in the skin - In my experience these birds are then off form. Does anyone have a scientific explanation for these bubbles? Note not all my winners have it! I'd say 60% do!
Chatrace Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 When i have them showing the Bubble and it is pumping, I put more Pool Money on it.It is gonna be there.
jimmy white Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 :)we used to call that the form spot :)
Guest speckled Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 :-/ ;D Well Jimmy thats what i would call it. ;D ;D ;D, but not all birds,have form spots do thay?Speck :-/ :-/
Mike Lycett Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I've lost count of the National winners I've verified with scaley skin etc... I never look at the breastbone now to be honest.
Guest Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Haven't a scooby what the blood spot is. Was told about it a few years back by my cousin and he bared the bird's keel to show me ... that would be my first problem, I'd need a brush & comb set to bare my pigeons' keels. As for pink skin, wondered about this for a while. Are all pigeons light skinned? What about the dark coloured birds with almost black skin on legs and feet? Would you expect these to have pink or dark body skin?
TheSaddler Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 All birds have pink skin irrespective of feather colour
jimmy white Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 with due respect mike i would expect a national winner to have scaly skin,,,after the event,,,, but b4 they go i would prefer to see the pink unscaly skin, telling me that the blood condition is perfect, and the temperature of the bird is perfect, and the bird is in tip top condition
Guest speckled Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 ;D Agree Jimmy & yes saddler, all flesh in birds are the same colour when fit & in condition,it the feathers that are the diffrence in coulor not the skin.Well i still have a 12ys old cock as if that still has a form spot that runs up & down the keal bone. :-/ that cause he heathy & in condition.Well Bruno would ya like to borrow me clipper cut a few feather away. ;D ;D lol what will you see underneath, not Dandruff ah? ;D ;D ;D lol i will pay for that comment, :P no i will been awhile so. ????? Cheers Speck :X :X ;D
robert.sutherland Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 When you have got this form spot on the keel how long dose it last I carnt say iv seen it but iv herd of it and I do look for nice clean skin and rose pink flesh .yours in sport BOB
Mike Lycett Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Not so sure how pivotal an issue it is though. Granted if you offered it me, i'd probably take it - but these pigeons I've verified have all been done within 24 hrs of winning a national & I've had to search through the feathers to find the skin,. let alone anything else. "technically" you'd say they weren't "bang on" but the performance is still there Mike

Cheers Speck :X :X ;D Had a long hard think (heads splitting ;D ) and based on past performances reckon if I trimmed those feathers back I'd probably discover a battery box in there (empty of course ;D ) or maybe a rubber band (burst) ;D. Don't want to cut too fine a point here, Speckled but reckon if you was rummagin about any cock's keal area what your probly seein is the blood rushin to his head. ;D ;D ;D Then again if its rushing down the keal ......
Guest speckled Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 ;D well bob it depends on the form of the pigeon, some come into form quicker, that others,so it not all done buy eye sign, wing therory, ect there are other way at looking at a winning pigeon.Lol Bruno thought i had a struggle on he hands there.with ya head spinning. ;D ;D ;DJust dont cut to much of a finner point on the subject mate. :D :DSpeck
