Thanks for the quick answers.

We don't have any poison on the property and the birds didn't ground at all to pick it up fram anywhere.

Just counted heads and 2 more missing

Whatever the problem it appears to be associated with being in the air. Birds near death don't go for a fly. Wondered if there was any airplane spraying crops in your vicinity? Chemical poisoning?

I think they possibly hit overhead cables or even tree branches, I use to have it happen a lot until they moved the cables

Never thought of that one Bruno, I'll make enquiries.

No further incidents as yet, looks like I've lost 3.  One who dropped from the sky at a neighbours feet and 2 who didn't return. Two who showed signs of blood around the mouth seem to be ok at the present.

Thanks for your input Frank, we have no overhead wires near the property, but we do have trees.

Thankyou to everyone who replied on the list and privately.

We have had no further fatalities and the 2 birds who had blood coming from their mouths seem to be recovering this evening.  There has been no crop spraying and we cannot see where the birds have had contact with rat poison.

We seem to think something freaked them and they flew into a tree limb.  We haven't seen a hawk for ages, maybe someone was popping off with an air gun.  I'm still 2 missing.

It could have been a lot worse I gess.

Once again thanks for your help and concern

Ok, I figured it out after thinking a bit. This happened to me years ago with my Ybs. They fly crazy and are not flocking and all going in th same direction and you had 2 groups and they hit head on. I remember mine crashed and 1 fell dead in the yard and a couple others just had banged wings and heads and made it back to the loft and limped in, they were a bit bloody ,but recovered. the one had a broken neck that fell in the yard.DOA
