Can pigeons sense an oncoming storm

Last year we had a thunderstorm predicted for late afternoon/early evening Saturday. Our birds were put up early, so that they would be home before the weather hit.  Not so, we had a very slow tough race with heavy losses. My question is, can the birds sense that there is a storm coming in eventhough it could be at least 8/10 hours away.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT BIRDS HYACINTH BUT THEY HAVE PROVED THAT CERTAIN ANIMALS COULD PREDICT WHEN BAD WEATHER IS COMING AND I MAY BE WRONG HERE BUT DO COWS NOT MOVE IN TO ONE CORNER OF THE FIELD WHEN BAD WEATHER IS COMING

They can most certainly sense a thunder storm. I tried to let my YBs out last night and as normal just opened the door expecting them to fly out. Not a single one would come out even when I tried to force them out, so I shut the door and left them in. It was blue skies when I first opened the door and twenty minutes later the heavens opened with thunder overhead. This is the second time this has happened to mine.  :)
