stevebelbin Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 I have paired my birds back to try and win our longest race. My two candidates (both cocks) have flown well at distance races last year. They have had most inland races this year and have done their usual plodding home as you would expect from channel birds. They have been sitting now for about 6 days and they will be basketed up next wednesday for the race, and are currently getting trained every morning from 15 miles and flagged an hour on an afternoon. My only problem seems to be their skin is more purple than pink, does anyone know if this is because they are being fed a heavier corn than they are used to. They look OK and are dropping down feathers but I want them in A1 condition, so I have a really good chance of getting them on the day. Any clues as to what to give them to get the pink skin back etc
Guest Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Steve, try putting them on Barley and Green tea for 5 days, will bring the pink back
stevebelbin Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Cheers Hyacinth, would it work with just the tea, as there on heavy corn to keep the weight on for the race. Or would giving them barley work for the channel race??
Guest Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Cheers Hyacinth, would it work with just the tea, as there on heavy corn to keep the weight on for the race. Or would giving them barley work for the channel race?? Try the green tea on its own, and add a splash of garlic juice every other day this will purify the blood stream. Pity you're feeding them up for a channel race as the barley works wonders
jimmy white Posted June 29, 2006 Author Report Posted June 29, 2006 when winning combine sartilly 505 miles,,,widowhood cock full wing, paired feb no training, but the bird flew itself for 2.3 hoursafter other cocks were in , 4 races previous inland up to 280 miles scored in the last two, more or less normal widowhood method, the race was reasonably fast sir colin was opposite, scored 4 times nat,inc ist region 2 open 604 miles, second flight just peeping, through loaded with peanuts, the last few weeks as much as he wanted, flew out with widowhood cocks , then with ybs [kept in spacious yb loft] was taking to two young hens all races hard with head winds, with limited birds timed in, bird that was 15 open rennes 550 miles, widowhood cock 6 years old , cast first flight, last race 280 miles [ broken bird flying back and forward to fife every day] fed peanuts, put two 3day old ybs in nest pan 2 days b4 race, took to them like a duck taking to water, had to keep changing young as he had no soft food other birds scored natural ,mostly hens 4 races in land up to 280 mile then trained hard down to 50 mies every second day, fed heavy mix , paired march , usually second flight, just comming through,,,,,,would be interested in other fanciers methods
