a question of numbers

due to a lack of space in my back garden i only have room for a 8x4 shed to keep my rollers in, how many birds should i be able to keep without overcrowding them

I wouldn't keep more than a dozen in there.

I'm not sure what the shed is, but guess its a garden shed you plan to use.

If it is you need to put plenty of ventilation in. What you do need to think about is the shed may be 8x4 but buy the time you have put perches and nest boxes the internal space will be redused and are you going to divide the loft so you can split the cocks and hens?

yea i already have a small divide in it and 8 small breeding boxes which can double up as perches plus about 20 saddle perches i realise that its not a bird for every perch, id love a bigger loft but the missus would hang me by the balls :X

In an 8 X 4 loft/shed,if you were to build a whats termed a kit/flying box 8 ft in length and approx 3 ft high,you could with adeqyuate ventilation keep up to- 30 rollers,all on V perches,with breeding/boxs fashioned beneath,but again proper ventilation is paramount

well the shed doesnt have loft louvres but i have a mesh door behind the main door which is open all day so theres fresh air coming into the shed all day long and the main door is only closed on a night, i have 10 birds in at the moment and i might be getting some more to help someone out who cant look after his birds anymore :-/
