Dear all, I'm wondering whether any of you might be able to help me.  I am production coordinator on a very low budget feature film called Sugarhouse Lane, being shot in East London. I am in search of a pigeon trainer/owner who would like to come and spend a day on a film set with their pigeons!

For one scene we would like to have a shot of a couple of pigeons flying out of a room in a warehouse. We need someone to be our pigeon handler, allowing their pigeons to fly in front of the camera at the appropriate moment, and then to get the pigeon back rather than flap endlessly around the film set!  It should be a fairly quick and simple shot to take.

Of course, we will give this pigeon handler a credit on our film, which will have a cinematic release.

We will need the pigeon handler/trainer/owner to come in this Thursday 24th August to spend the day, or atleast the afternoon.  If anyone is interested but can't make that day, do still please get in touch.

I'd be very grateful to hear from anyone who has any thoughts, interest, contacts etc.  My mobile number is: 07879676666.

Many thanks

Tamsin

come on their must be someone who wants to be a film star. I'd do it in a flash if I lived near London. Might be hard to arrange like as pigeons home back to their loft but if you took a couple along for takes it prob could be done.

I DOUBT IF IT WOULD BE QUICK AND SIMPLE TO GET A BIRD TO FLY IN FRONT OF A CAMERA AND THEN BACK TO ITS OWNER AS SOON AS HE LETS IT GO ITS GOING TO HEAD STRAIGHT OUT THE DOOR AND HOME AND THAT WOULD BE AFTER IT FLAPS AROUND THE ROOM

hi folkies , jus a sugestion but why not use squeakers i train my to go to the basket when i feed them so that they get used to eating and drinkin in  the basket , so u let them go infront of camera and they fly into the basket

Thanks for suggestions and offers!

Wiley, it'd be great if you're willing to have a go at trying to make it work.  We don't actually need the pigeons to flock and fly about - it's just flying upwards into shot.  The idea for the film is that a couple of pigeons startle one of the characters as he walks through a warehouse.  The main difficulty will be that the open door to the outside is not directly in front of them to fly out of, it's a big rolling warehouse door at one end.  So if they aren't trained to go back to their basket or owner then, they will need to be directed down to the right place to escape.

Do please give me a call on my mobile (07879676666) if you're interested in getting involved.

Rockinric, perhaps it's too far for you to come, but we'd be happy to pay for your train fare here if you think your squeakers are trained enough for you to be able to get them back.  Get in touch!

Many thanks all!

Tasmin would love to get involved but these pigeons are racers not film stars and its more than likely they would damage themselves in the process, and it wouldnt be down to jus me as half the birds are my dads aswell,if u can guareentee that the door would be infront of the birds we could come to some arangement. If interested give me a call (02075110353)

Hi all

Thanks to everyone for your help and comments re filming pigeons in our warehouse.  Well, we did managed to get hold of some pigeons to fly in front of actor Steven Mackintosh last Thursday.  And all went well.  East London based pigeon trainer and racer brought 8 of his birds along and they did a mighty fine job.  And, although they chose to hang out among the rafters for a while, they finally made their way out of the big roller door of the warehouse and flew home.

Thank you to Steve our star pigeon trainer!

Do look out for our film Sugarhouse Lane which is due for release next spring and in particular for the now famous pigeon scene.  In fact there's a bit of a debate raging on our blog (www.sugarhouselane.com) about the whereabouts of an egg that one of Steve's pigeons laid on the camera!

Nah Paulo wasnt me,althought it sounded like it went along well i didnt fancy me birds flying inside a warehouse and gettin injured if ya no what i mean it wouldnt be worth it.I would ave loved to ave done it now it sounds like it all went well lol little bit of jealousy inside. But maybe if Tasmin does make a film about pigeons in the war i could have some involvement,as drama is a love of mine as i do it for A levels.
