Hi guys prolly a simple question for you  .When do i pair my birds ,i have one pair of stock birds and seven pair for breeding and racing.I know i can breed of my stock pair early in the year but what about my racers ?will i ruin them for racing if i pair them to early.I was hoping to get a team of 30 young birds i could maybe boost the numbers from pigeon sales but would prefer to breed my own.

Any help and advice would be most welcome.

Thanks Wiley .yes i am new to the sport this was my first year and i only raced young birds but i raced every race ,maybe i overworked them.Only one bird did every race most of them did four maybe five races.

Thanks guys.I'm just north stafford(about 30 mile) and fly in the south west cheshire fed.my ultimate aim is to get in the national and actually compete but i know it will take years. And my first step is getting a family of birds that work well with me.Ive allready learned a lot in my first season .the biggest problem i find is that everyone does things a different way.Hopefully i will get the basics down then go from there.Ive just found an article by Old hand called the novices social circle .Its a beginners guide and what i have read of it .I think i will be following for the next season.

Again thanks for the help guys

Ive got two old bird halfs that are 6' by 6' and my young bird half is 12' by 6'.but i am hoping to knock that down and maybe buy a loft or build another loft with a stock loft with an aviary on it.If i knock the young bird half down i can get a 20'  x 6' loft with an Aviary on one end.

i think you have the rite idea ronnie find a system you like and stick to it while your learning, but never be afraid to ask these guys because most of them will help you without a doubt.im from stafford south cannock

Hi ya Aarden i work at great bridgeford(well i get picked up there) and do a lot of work around that way(railway worker).I trained my young birds there this year(Cannock) .Lots of hawks around that way.

yea ronnie if youve found a system that you like use it but neva be afraid to try new things mate, constantly every year we change something slightly to try and improve our results, this year hopefully im going to do two different things with my two widowhood sections. So are you racing natural or widowhood the coming year

Posted

yes i agree (cannock chase). i now live in wednesbury.im lucky theres lots of auctions rite on my doorstep (but that could be a bad thing).im restarting this year so in same bot as you

i dont think alot of auctions is a bad thing aldepends if you go to the right auctions.Down in london its very rare we get a auction down here unless its for charity or for a gold ring race!

do you no heartof england auctions wiley, well mark the auctioner lives 6doors from me, so if you dont buy pigeons we have a good social circle every sunday and monday nite

Wiley i am thinking of trying a sort of roundabout system to try and get my team abit bigger. But it will also give me a taste for widowhood and natural.I am looking to go widowhood in the end though.I'm just trying to get a feel for the birds at the moment .Seeing if i can judge what bird responds to what.I am looking forward to racing younbirds that i have bred myself though.I cant wait till i get a channel bird that has been bred by me .I think that will be an achievment .

lol aarden who dont know heartofengland auctions lol there in the books every week, yea i know mark evans his a top guy met him a few times, aarden thats one thing about pigeon fanciers there normally very sociable guys and from whereva in the country u can always have a gd crack, thats y i cant wait to blackpool!Ronnie always good to know your birds, in my shed i know what family of pigeon reacts to certain weather conditons and race,i also know nearly every pigeon on a one to one basis and know there characters, and i think you need to know your pigeons to become successful thats why im always banging on about how i like my pigeons to be tame on here, yea roundabout is quiet a good method mate.done it a few years they raced okay onit but others have had brillant results on it like geoff kirckland ect, however i raced on it a couple of years and then went back to widowhood,in which we race both cocks and hens.Yea its a brillant experience mate getting a pigeon from the combine/channel,ive never raced south but i get a kick from getting birds from the combine on the north its even better when uve bred a bird to win it like we did here from lerwick.Boy i tell ya you nothing can take away that experience

hi ronnie, hope things go well for you, as far as pairing birds up a lot depends on the type of racing you want to do, i would suggest that you pair up your birds about the middle of feb , and race natural your first full year , but i would say one of the worst things to ruin pigeons for the year is training to early, in the cold east winds , so some times it pays to have patience, best of luck  :) :) :)
