Hi all, I have a late breed young hen, ( Aug 06 )  What I want to know is, would it be OK to pair up to breed off in January 07, or would she still be too young?

Well I just bought a cock, and I put him in with her, as I always thought she was a cock!! lol but after a couple of days, I soon found out she was a he :o so I split them straight away.  I am going to pair them back up in january ;D  Thank you for your reply.

If it was me I would let her mature until later in the year - maybe pair her up end of march but thats just me. I don't pair late breds until their 2nd year for breeding, just my own way.

As a general rule a young hen should be able to breed and produce youngsters at 6 months, young cocks usually are ready around 5 months.  Personally I would prefer to let the bird mature to at least a year old,  to me they seem to take much better care of the youngsters and will then raise you super healthy babies.  My thoughts anyway.  Ed

Let her mature no point in breeding off them when too young.
