Speedy Ste Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Hi all, I have a late breed young hen, ( Aug 06 ) What I want to know is, would it be OK to pair up to breed off in January 07, or would she still be too young? Steve
Beanz Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 If she will pair and lay let her breed, I don't think it would do any harm as she will only breed when ready.
Speedy Ste Posted December 14, 2006 Author Report Posted December 14, 2006 Well I just bought a cock, and I put him in with her, as I always thought she was a cock!! lol but after a couple of days, I soon found out she was a he so I split them straight away. I am going to pair them back up in january ;D Thank you for your reply. Steve
westy Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 you can brred of a pigeon at six weeks old and above i read this somewhere.
Guest Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 If it was me I would let her mature until later in the year - maybe pair her up end of march but thats just me. I don't pair late breds until their 2nd year for breeding, just my own way.
Wiley Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 you can brred of a pigeon at six weeks old and above i read this somewhere. you sure seems well young!if its ready to pair up it wil mate just keep testing her
westy Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 im not sure where i read it but there able to bree at that age.
birdman55678 Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 As a general rule a young hen should be able to breed and produce youngsters at 6 months, young cocks usually are ready around 5 months. Personally I would prefer to let the bird mature to at least a year old, to me they seem to take much better care of the youngsters and will then raise you super healthy babies. My thoughts anyway. Guest coxy Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 should see y u cant pair her up m8if no luck split her and try abit later on no harm in tryin
Guest shadow Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Let her mature no point in breeding off them when too young.
jimmy white Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 it would probably breed at that age i,e, 6 months , but the bird itself is really not really matured enough, to hatch and rear,
Guest coxy Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 can i just ask what is the rush to breed off her m8
