pigeon2007 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 How long(an hour) dose it take pigeons usually fly back home in 20 miles,30miles,50,miles,100 miles. Thanks
friendsloft Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I normally work on a mile per minute in good conditions, but also take into account wind directions ie head wind will slow thwm down, tail wind will blow them home. friendsloft
Guest Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 working on the principle that pigeons under their own steam fly roughly 48miles per hour the distances you mentioned would take approximately the following. 20miles: 25mins 30miles: 37mins 50miles: 62mins 100miles: 125mins Into a head wind you would take away half the wind speed from the 48 mph. eg wind speed 20mph so take 10 away from 48mph = 38mph. Add tail wind speed onto 48mph eg tailwind 20mph + 48mph means 68mph for race. Hope this helps
Guest WINGS 04 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I THINK THE TIME IN FLYING HOME FROM TRANNING IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT ALL YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS TO GET THEM HOME WITH NO LOSES OR INJURED BIRDS
jimmy white Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I THINK THE TIME IN FLYING HOME FROM TRANNING IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT ALL YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS TO GET THEM HOME WITH NO LOSES OR INJURED BIRDS yes i think thats the main thing but their average speed ,,,depending on the wind, is roughly 40 mph

Guest CS Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I THINK THE TIME IN FLYING HOME FROM TRANNING IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT ALL YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS TO GET THEM HOME WITH NO LOSES OR INJURED BIRDS Well said.

birdman55678 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Its been my thoughts that 45 mph is what the birds will average year end and year out, not much difference between mine and Darrens but now Jimmys are really slow.... Ed ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 thats what i mean mine are slow ;D ;D ;D especially when you see the crows overtaking them ;D ;D ;D
