pigeon2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I just activated the Hawkeye few days ago.Tried to play with a few things.I found out that if i want to write the pedigree i have to add every birds on sire and dam in the other pedigree(even though i don't have them in my loft). Is hawkeye can download other pedigree ?
GREENGRASS Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 hawkeye is like you say but once a bird in on the database its sire and dam can be added at the click of a button, if the birds are not at your loft you must add them as archive. you must input all info in order to get a full detailed pedigree.
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I have been using hawkeye for a couple of years and really like it I am having some difficulty using the race results, I primarily use it for pedigrees I do use the progency tabs it really helps locate those key breeders I have identified 2 birds that I would have overlooked if I hadn't crossed refrenced them it does take a long time to enter the birds initally but once you get all the key breeders done it is very easy to add new birds and keeping track of specific birds for planned matings is easy too using status tabs I have ran through the grandparents and have discovered many birds aquired from diffrent breeders have some common ancestery and have been isolating these and trying to put theses birds back together this is very easy with this system
pj1001 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 What is the best loft management system out there at the minute in terms of value for money? A friend of mine who sells a good number of birds during the year was asking me which system he should buy to record breeding and racing details of his birds? He will primarily be using it to generate pedigrees though I would assume. The biggest problem though is he isn't very computer literate, and I don't really want to get too involved as I know that will result in me having to type all his data into the system primarily and at the minute I haven't really got the time for that. So anyone got any suggestions for a decent value for money loft management system that is pretty easy to use? Many thanks PJ
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I think that most of these are like pigeon racing its self ya get out what ya put in I cant imagine that there are any of these that dont require you to put in the info of all the breeders but this system is easy to use you just add a bird it brings up a window that asks ring# and year ect then the next asks color you build a list for every category like when it asks color you just scroll down to that color and then click on color if color isnt there you add it to list same goes for strain when it is time to add a new bird you just click on add bird and then it will give you a list of cocks and hens you just hit the category and scroll down to sires # and click it then you do the same for the dams then you can go to add more info and add things like eyesign grade origin of bird, where bird is at ( racing loft, breeding loft, sold, loaned, ect ) I was without mine for a year and a half after having it for 2 years and hopefully I will never be without it again the hawkeye will do a LOT more than just print peds you can get strain reports which basically give you a report of the genetic makeup by percentage it will help keep track of related birds as well there are a bunch of features that are used in race performances that I havent tried yet I think you can get as complicated or as simple as you want with this system it will also print pictures on pedigrees
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I dont know that it is the best as honestly I havent tried many others but this one makes the most sense of the ones I have tried I just bought it for the pedigree program but have learned to do a lot more and am getting somewhat dependant on it we have started to print peds off as birds are hatched and keep them right on side of loft on race day you can pick up the book and figure out that 4 of the 5 on the drop had the same grandfather or great grandfather because its right there in black and white
pj1001 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks everyone for your replies and the information you have included in them, it sounds like Hawkeye is the system for him. I will pass this information on to him and downlaod a copy of the trial to let him haeve a look at before he makes a purchase. He can start off with the pedigree part of it and build on that as he gains more confidence. Many thanks all. PJ
