I THINK THEY ARE THERE TO OVER SEE ANY MEETINGS AND TO LISEN TO MEMBERS IF THEY HAVE ANY PROBLUMS

Posted

The chairman is there as the title suggest,to chair meetings keeping control of events, the chairman also has the deciding vote if it is required, and to help resolve any disputes between members as and when needed, where as the presidents job is just a figure head, some clubs now dont bother, but have just a chairman

First of all in his executive role he is certainly no figurehead, he takes the chair at meetings and general meetings, it is his responsibility allong with the secretary to ensure the correct and smoot running of the club in accordance with the rules, to this end he should be well conversant with the rules and the various obligations to the members, it is also vitally important for the chairman to have a confident grasp of committee procedure and the conduct of meetings, the chairman is often the face of the club, representing it at outside functions, so should be able to handle those tasks as a chairman should.

Fifer sorry but i wasnt saying the chairman is a figure head far from it, i was the chairman of my club for 4 years and agree with everything regarding his duties,it was the presidents role which i think is the figurehead role which is why some clubs dont bother with one now, i also believe the the chairman should work closely with the sec, so he is aware of everything going on and that you dont turn up for meetings unarmed

no sorry i didn't mean u said he was a figurehead, i ment he shouldnt be as such. in other words not the boss so to speak, sorry i missled u, now adays i think most organisations only have a president who is the chairman at meetings, and if he is absent the vice president takes over, or a chairman can be elected from the body of the hall if none of the officials are there,

I'm president of my club and my job is to make sure the club is running smoothly and if there are any problems I call meetings so the members can sort it out.

we've only 8 members so my bits easy, just watch that nobody runs off with the money!!!

The Chairman runs meetings and is there to see the smooth running of the club were the president is a figurehead but should run the AGM and is there for advice to the secretary and members on legal matters mainly.
