they look a bonny couple, are you thinking about housing a few more. What other stuff do they have in there environment as i noticed a paint tin. From what i can see the chequer looks like a hen and im not to sure on the red as his in difficult angle but he may be a cock!

if the red has black bits in tail feathers its a cock if they are brown its a hen..........

Not all red cocks have black flecks, all depends if they are heterozygos or homozygos.Pure red cocks do not have the flecks only the ones carrying blue show them.

However red hens do not have the flecks because they only have one colour gene (hemizygos)and therefore cannot be carrying blue.

Homozygos red+red genes = red cock,no flecks

heterozygos red+blue genes = red cock with black flecks

hemizygos 1 red gene = red hen

well my shed is all cleared out now apart from my pigeons  thanks for the offer wiley it didnt occur to me that they may fly to their old home   i hope not cos one of the owners said that his lost pigeon was only fit for the bin  should i keep them locked up for a while and hope that they have eggs which will encourage them to stay? thanks for other replies but most of the comments about colouring went way over my head  i can see there is a lot to pigeon keeping and thank you everybody for your help
