Guest Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 If you purchase something and it doesn't work as advertised, take it back and get a refund. Snow here today, saw cat's footprints in front garden. Checked round back garden and was really surprised to see the cat's footprints there too, because I've an ultrasonic chaser there. Felt a bit like 'Trapper Bruno' trying to work out exactly what I was seeing from the pattern of footprints in the snow. The prints came from the oppo side of the garden to where the loft is, single track in, and stopped 11 foot from the loft, turned tail and went back out the way it came in. No footprints on the loft or veranda roofs, or anywhere else in the garden.. So appears my animalchaser creates the barrier of sound all along the front of my loft that I'd wanted, but it is only 11 feet deep opposite the veranda, where the ultrasonic chaser is installed, and at its shallowest. More work needed on the fence I think, but the ultrasonic seems to be doing the job.
stevebelbin Posted February 8, 2007 Author Report Posted February 8, 2007 Fence-wise im ok as ive put carpet grippers along the top (doesnt look as bad as it sounds). Ive fitted the cat deterant to the fence near my YB trap as I want them on open-hole. The trap is fairly high so I think it will be ok, but just got the deterant as a just in case lol

Tickle rather than prickle methinks. Carpet gripper sounds great idea, are you talking about the wooden strips with tacks thro them, that run along skirting board, or the metal 'grip' one for doorways?
stevebelbin Posted February 8, 2007 Author Report Posted February 8, 2007 Yep there the ones, ive seen a cat trying to walk along it and they soon jump off lol. There all round on mine so the fence is a no go for them now . They still walk down the garden though which is what the cat deterant was for. The were getting under the loft, so I put a few mouse traps near where they were coming from, which seemes to work, but ive trellised it off now, so they cant get under.
blackjack Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Get an electric fence and make a small compound round the loft they do not like electric fences .I also have Glen of Imaal terriers and Russells which are also rather effective but an electric fence never goes to sleep.
Guest Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 i was told electronic cat deterants affect ur birds,as they hear these sounds as well as the cats .these deterants were only made for gardeners to keep cats off their gardens.
gangster Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 get a good terrier that will do them on ground level anything on the shed airgun.............
Guest Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 i got a staff cross and he will skin a cat b4 he reaches the fence, not that i would let him do that of course i wouldnt ;)but i cant watch him 24 hrs a day ..paul ;D

I think it important to read the blurb on the product before buying. Must admit wondered on B&Q one and without seeing the product description, would have to agree with you that it may not be the correct type. Mine says: "sound cannot be heard by humans but is uncomfortable to animals whose only reaction is to move away. Used to keep garden, lawn and yard free of unwanted dogs, cats, squirrels, outdoor rodents etc." And as I said 'read the blurb', did again, for this, and find mine doesn't mention foxes as I had thought. Mine is also mounted on the inside of my veranda wall, above the birds (they have no access to it). There has been no change in their use of the veranda or their behaviour when in it, since this ultrasonic was installed.

But intentially was to keep cats out! But took them down to keep one of the neighbours who at the time had recently moved in and they complain about everything there pretty nosey neighbours they even complained once our petals from rose bush fell into there gardren, and they said hope we are not begin petty! Me mum put them straight lol
Beanz Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 One of my fancier friends purchased one of these electronic cat deterrents, he says it worked for about 12 months and then they took no notice of it.
