Bobthegas Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Gents/Ladies, Your help and knowledge please, I have weaned of first round of young they are about 7 weeks old now. But, do i need to put them on a darkness regime now or is it naturally enough darkness at the moment,if so how many hours darkness should they be shut down for. Thanks Bob
Guest Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Never done darkness, but from what I can gather from others it's dark enough at the moment so darkening from the beginning of march is fine.
jimmy white Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 hi bob ,, wish you well with your ybs ,,in my opinion darkness system yb,s birds, should only have 8 hours daylight until the longest day when they are put on normal daylight , some do this gradual some just open up , this way they usualy have a full body moult ,but dont cast any flights
chucka Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 darkend mine today 5pm 9am gave them 4 days on natural light 2 find the water and corn
pigeonscout Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 You do not need to darken until end of March that is 10 weeks on dark until 21 June. Some guys in holand are getting away with 7 weeks but I would give them 10 just to be on the safe side.
Guest Vic Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Pigeonscout. End of March maybe! But most will have started the primary flight moult, which some fanciers don't agree with. OK, they will have new body feathers before being taken off the darkness, but some will have thrown up to four primaries. Vic.
schouwman71 Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 if your stock birds were paired up 1st week of december and they laid up without any problems, your youngsters will not even need to go on the darkness system as they will moult through without dropping any flights and will look great for july.Have you seen the video "system x"
