crazy pigeon boy Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 hi all as some of you might know i moved my loft to a new location at the back of my house around 3 months ago i have opened the doors for the birds to have a look around every day the birds are now on eggs so i am going to lock the hens in the boxes and let the cocks out for the first time tomorrow any one have any tips on how to get the birds to come back to my new location not the old one that is around 3 miles away cheers
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 if you put a rubber band round the primary flights in 1 of the wings and let them out they will just walk about after a week release 1 or 2 of the flights so they can fly to the loft roof keep letting out flights at regular intervals and by the time all are released they will have orientated themselves to the new loft obviously if you want to race them be carefulwith the flights
Wiley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 gd you got them on eggs, keep them hungry will help and also do not chase them out the lofts let them come out on own accord
Guest cloudview Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 put birds in basket agood 20 feet in front of loft ,so if and when they do start coming back at least they know what the front of loft looks like, don,t worry if they are missing for two t days or more they will turn up when hunger kicks in my own opinion is intelligent birds will break more easily than stupid one.s
jimmy white Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 birds should be ok , even if they go back to the old place , dont give them a bath for a fortnight , let them out hungry , have some seeds scattered round garden , let them see you filling the bath [splashing the water] , and throwing some canary seed and hemp around, once they get a pick outside [,even if they go after that ] theyll be back best of luck
