Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I know there are some excellent distance fliers who come on this site , would some of them like to share some information on how they prepare their birds for long races, questions like what you feed them up till basketing, when do you alter the feeding for such races,at what distance race do you stop them or how many weeks before a big race would you stop them, anything at all that might help somebody with getting birds ready for these type of races, what is the best nest condition to send cocks or hens in, I know every bird is different but just a general guide, I know there are other fliers that have been asking the same questions like myself and are looking for the same answers as myself, so come on you fliers who excel over the water give us some good advice
stevebelbin Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 add peanuts 1 week befor basketing Same here, I keep mine on full V-Laga best allround two weeks building up to the race and add 3 peanuts per pigeon in there afternoon feed. Then the day of basketing give them as many peanuts as they like in the morning, so they have plenty of time to drink as the peanuts swell up a bit and sometimes cause them to vomit when travelling in the car. I worm mine a fortnight before there main race aswell. I honestly believe pigeons love peanuts so much that this is a massive incentive in them coming home ;D
Guest j v ward Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 first day 1peanut second day 2peanuts working up to 7peanuts on basketing day yours in sport j v ward
Guest Paulo Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 rice boiled feed when basketing for the longer races release energy lower and is high in carbs. Peanuts are also kings for long races
DECKY Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Give them what they want in the last week.( preferably high in carbs )Make them as happy and contented as possible. The birds tell you themselves when they are right. Last year I noticed one of my cocks treading another cock and this was totally out of character for this bird, so he was sent to the SNFC Gold cup race and won 2nd west section.
Guest Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Lost replies I got from a similar question Tammy, but there's one thread still there (not mine) at: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1154367421/s-10/highlight-500/#num10
