THE FIFER Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 The Runt is the oldest and largest pigeon breed in existance,it is known as the Roman Pigeon on the Continent of Europe, and therefore Italy must have some long connections with the runt. The Runt is known in Serfs and bars in most colours, but there appear to be no pieds or other markings,They weigh nearlt threepounds, and have a wing span longer than a metre,In America the runt has many followers, but they do notrecommend the runt as a squab breed,A special club for the breed was formed in 1913,In Britain there are about four active fanciers and the breed is only seen at large shows.Early writings state that the Runt improved such breeds as the Mondain,Montauban and Cauchois. from a book i have on pigeons.
