Sean Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 couldnt give two monkys about house roofs im also surounded but iv training y/b to hit the roof then down on to loft so far so good.get on or two thats wants to stay on longer than i would like this being 10 seconds but what can u do when u sorounded with other flyers that seem to think its quite ok to let their's perch on roof tops for the day.(mupets)

Ian Gill Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Feed your ybs an ounce a day ..no more ,no less ,give them cider vinegar or any of the other citric acid products in the water 4 days a week .Measure the corn out and if you fly them both morning and night give them a few handfuls when you call them in in the morning and the remainder after the evening fly. Under feeding will cause your ybs to sit about waiting for a feed

Point being cider vinegar has been touted on this forum as the cure all of everything, except funnily enough as the perfect condiment for a decent plate of fish and chips. Ronnie Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 I was under the impression Cider vinegar is to higher the acidity level in the pigeons crop .The high acid level is inhospitable for a lot of the pigeon nasties .Its not a cure more of a preventive .As to pigeons on the roof i am in the same position with house's surrounding me and muppets around me who let there birds out at 7 in the morning till it gets dark(usually still out then).I wouldnt mind if they raced them but they just throw a batch of 50-60 up and try and get all the strays.God forbid what will happen on race day's.i'm starting to wonder if i did the right thing moving here i dunno whats worse the cats at the other place or the idiots surrounding me. Still ive managed to keep the young bird team intact with only one loss upto now.Pretty sure i know where that went as well.

Guest Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 In my opinion, nothing to do with feeding, everything to do with pigeons developing / not being allowed to develop bad habits. My youngsters when they're 1st out and before they are properly on the wing, roof-hop from loft roof to my house roof. I'm quite happy with that cos they get to see what's around them before they take off. I'm not happy when they roof-hop to neighbours' roofs tho because that causes problems. My roof OK for now, cos it's my birds, still learnin, and my roof. As soon as they're strong on the wing tho, I expect them to drop to the loft. With youngsters its 'sods-law of reverse numbers' ;D : you've 12 on the loft and 1 on the house ... I expect 1 to join the others, I find its the 12 wot joins the 1. Only takes 1 brightly coloured rubber ball and 2 days.

tubbles Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 I know its a bad habit but, to me the house roof holds no problems. Come race day my birds tend to come and hit the roof without much flying around, now as for those who only let them land on the loft, you hear all the cries at the club of " ohhh it flew around trying to come in on line into a dodgy wind" and all that speel. If you don't want them on roof then throwing at them and starving them seems to be the only answer and, as throwing chases them further from the loft it seems that only the feed can control them. Good luck all the same matey. :-/
