DJ Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 i still have my 2 racing pigeons with me that came to me as strays and i now also have 2 young racing pigeons that were given to me and they have only just started flying from my shed and coming back to me over the last couple of days ive been given chevicol to treat my pigeons but ive been told that i cannot let them out each day after work or give them grit and minerals until the treatment has finished or it may not work, can anyone help with advice as ive started the treatment today which lasts for 5 days but dont want to keep my pigeons locked in for that long debbie
Guest jason Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I've never used Chevicol, so if thats what you've been advised (to keep them in) I would do, it won't harm them having 5 days in the loft. Our old birds have only just started going out again since before christmas! Jason
DJ Posted March 10, 2007 Author Report Posted March 10, 2007 thanks for reply jason and i think i understand what u mean but as i have only just got my 2 young pigeons used to flying in and out of my shed im worried that they may not like being locked in and fly off after they are let out after the 5 days of the chevicol treatment? can anybody tell me why they have to be kept in and why they cant eat grit or minerals while being treated ? debbie

Guest Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 do you know what you are treating them for with this stuff ,think maybe it would be better if you knew what they are being treated for in the first place ,
Guest Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 chevicol is for canker!!!...made by chevita....paul btw debbie if uve been told to keep ur birds in...its most prob to keep them from drinking any water other than treated.,,,sometimes if the canker is bad then some vets will advise this.
DJ Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 invincible-thanx for explaining about the grit/mineral thing and how it can affect the chevicol treatment also thanx to sammy for replying to my post-i was told to give the treatment as one of my pigeons was suffering from canker and i was advised to treat all of my pigeons at the same time (all 4 that is ;D ;D) i was just concerned about keeping my pigeons locked in for 5 days when the babies had just got used to flying in and out of my shed thanx again for all the advice debbie
