is it just me or my darkness young birds moulting extremely quick this year? could it be the weather? the environment? hours of darkness?

No, its not just you Wiley......my first batch of youngsters are really going into it! Went to a Breeder/Buyer Sale yesterday, and a couple of the lads there couldn't believe that I had youngsters flying! My first batch (22) are made up of 5 bought in youngsters, and 16 that bred for me as gifts. We put the first of these into the young bird loft early Feb, and once all they were eating OK, put them on the Dark. They currently excercise (raking) for 30 minutes, one lad questioned when we had paired up??? My second batch of home bred youngsters are just picking about the garden at the minute, but I expect them to be going strong in 2-3 weeks! Can't wait for the young bird season.....Its good to be back!

i know this craig been doing darkness for about 6 year, they just seem to be moulting out alot quicker and chucking alot more body feathers out then usual

Yeah, i noticed my youngsters moulting out a lot this year. how many youngsters u have now in your lofts?

got two yb lofts at moment there 12 in one shed which is full and there 16 so far in the big shed, by the end of the old bird season my young birds will be racing to 3 different sheds

yip , for some reason have noticed that in many lofts this year , but, can only be a good thing really :) :)
