batusai Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Guys, What do u thnk is the best thing to do on the day of LOADING date? What would I give to my birds? Friday is the loading day & Sunday is the liberation day.....it is the second of three races which is about 500 km.... thanks! batusai!
jimmy white Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 i would feed them as per usual [amount] but b4,,, 4 30 [the birds digestive system seems to slow down a bit after that, when birds are inactive, [info from jack barkel] ,, i would take the water away earlier to ensure they drink their full, after that time] this would aid towards any chance of deheydration on liberation ,,, a hand full of rice after theve been fed , would do no harm ,, best of luck :)

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 rice and peanuts fresh water take grit and minerals out as makes them thristy. Also play them some nice music what kind of rice paulo, fried or boiled ? ;D seriously what type of rice are you giving them ? and what music do you play them ? mine prefer to listen to classical music
Guest Paulo Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 you boil normal white rice and feed them a bit of that. Rice is full of carbs and release energy slow and retains water in it as well. My dad used to swear by a bit rice for the distance races. Peanuts are good as well full of energy. Mine like radio 1 a bit of pop and sometimes we play a bit of U2 or the who down the allotment for them.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 intrested in this rice thing, do you give it to the birds right after you have boiled it , or do you boil it earlier and feed it to them on the day of basketing
jimmy white Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 im not so sure about taking thegrit and minerals away,,this would may be ok for a short race, but for three days in the basket, would want them to drink as much as poss ,,,,,but agree with you on the music :) i used to have the old tranie [can expect a right answer for that one ;D ;D ;D] transister radio ;D ;D ;D it does have a calming effect on the birds,, tammy must have posh birds ;D ;D ;D mines like jimmy shand [and so does my parrot ,, he dances to it ,, wittnessed by many, young gangster was in stitches watching it ] i i was nearly in stitches just talking to ,,, big gangster ;D ;D ;D

Guest Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 boil it and give it to them when it has cooled down. is that with curry ;D ;D ;D
stevebelbin Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Got radio1 in my loft all day long, it chills me out at work, so hopefully will do the same for the birds. Give them as many chopped peanuts as they will eat B4 they go, great for slow releasing energy.
batusai Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 How about the drinker? Is plain water alone will give good results? will be racing on approx 350km.... thanks! batusai!
jimmy white Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 plain waters the best on basketing day ,, that way they will drink their fill,,, birds dont like additives to water and tend not to drink as much
