DJ Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 i took my pigeons down to horsham (only 5 miles)this morning as i thought theyd enjoy the fly and it took 5 an hour and half to get home and 5 are still missing 4 of the 5 that came home were originally strays but all the missing ones were given to me by a friend (they havnt gone back to old loft) i cant understand how they can get lost from 5 miles but then i am only a novice any theories anyone as its all a bit of a mystery to me? debbie :'(
gangster Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 were they babies? had they been flying well around the loft?
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 was the weather clear in the morning, ?could have met in with a lot of other birds and as you were only flying ten they would joined in with them and discovered too late they were away the wrong way ? birds can be lost from any distance whether its five or fifty miles, you may get them back today

DJ Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 11.15am today and my 5 pigeons are still missing, the 5 missing were all 06 birds and havnt had any racing or training before, the weather was sunny but a bit windy but as it was only 5 miles i didnt worry, they havnt gone back to their old loft so all i can do is hope they come back, 4 of the 5 that came home were originally strays so at least theyve had the experience of racing in the past, debbie
Bluedoo Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Hi, Had your 06 birds been in a basket before? The fact the strays came back (had probably been in a basket to become strays) may help, and they may be more street wise if there was a hawk attack. Hope they make it back anyway.
Wiley Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 these 06 birds although they were 06 when did u recieve these birds? as babies? and when? how had they been flying around the home?
gangster Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 AS POSTED MAYBE THEY HAVE BEEN DRAGGED BY A FLOCK OF TRAINERS, THEY MAY STILL SUPRISE YOU AND TURN UP...KEEP THE FAITH................
barlbylofts Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 i know people who have raced birds across the channal, the first training toss of the following season lost them. strange things are pigeons at times if we knew what went through their minds we would be better at what we do lol
