pigeon bird Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 we get our lofts from blakes, there are up north but you tell them what you want , sections etc and they deliver and build it for you in the price, had 5 from them now really happy with them they cost anything from £500 to loads of money, you usually find them in bhw.
Okitsme Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Pigeon Bird, do Blakes have a website? : Rose, I wait in anticipation.
Okitsme Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Peeps, I cant wait anymore. I was gonna wait until early next year to buy my loft but I think I will have my loft within the next few weeks. Mad? I know I am but I am really excited about this and cant wait to have my first birds. I am gonna start off slow with maybe about 4 stock birds and build my flock that way. I remember when I was a kid and my first squeaker hatched, it was the most amazing feeling of accomplishment (although the birds do all the work! ;D). I also miss the feeling of pride when you open your loft and all your birds take flight. The sight is just amazing. Ok enough now, gonna see if I can order my loft. Thanks for all the help and will keep you guys updated.
jimmy white Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 there are many pigeon loft suppliers,, you can even buy locally,, a garden shed , quite easily converted [cheaper ] i dont have the blakes loft addy but there is one in the west midlanda that seems quite reasonable ,,,its lenches bridge lofts ,,phone 01384 271 730 manufactured and erected wthin 14 days this is at 10, high st,kingswinford, west midlands dy6 8xd,, but there are many places to buy lofts , again , depending on the cash your willing to spend and off couse , the size of loft. petron lofts specialise in these, but can be expensive, with all the fittings

jimmy white Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 if your that keen ;D ;D ;D [ youll find youll need patience with pigeons ;D] and you get your loft shortly,, you can have [if you want , 4 ybs , ready in 3 weeks, very well bred pigeons [more later if you want ] these birds would be at least flying [homing ] to you , you would be able to let them out ,, even train and race them,,,but would be ideal to breed you a team of yb,s for next year

pigeon bird Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Pigeon Bird, do Blakes have a website? : Rose, I wait in anticipation. SORRY TO TAKE SO LONG ROSE NOT THAT I NO OFF
Okitsme Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 No worries Pigeon Bird, I think I have my loft I wanna order. Its gonna quite small to start off with. 6' x 9'. With two sections, one is 4' and the other is 5'. Will this be big enough and how many birds do think I could keep in this loft? I was thinking of maybe getting older birds to breed with and not ybs. Anyone agree? Anybody know where I can get good quality pigeons to breed with?
stevebelbin Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 I would go with a minimum of 12ft x 6ft in two sections. Then in winter you can split the sexes off. Make sure you make a good base for the loft, and have a minimum of 600mm off the floor or the floor will get damp. A damp proof membrane between the floor timber and the supports is also a good idea to stop rising damp. And start with YBs as you will be able to let them out straight away. Louella pigeon world are a good place to buy from. They buy top birds from around the world and sell the YBs of them. You can get some grandchildren of winners for £99 for six or pay extra and get direct children, which are more expensive.
Okitsme Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Hi Rose, I have actually been to a club in Wimbledon when they did their basketing and afterwards I chatted to some of the chaps they were really friendly. They suggested I go to the other club in Mitcham but I really liked the club I went to in Wimbledon. I even met the secretary so I think I might join them. I have tho already joined the RPRA. Thank you very much for your help. Regards David
Okitsme Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Sorry, I just read the post I wrote. Duh!!! I should read what I write. ;D ;D ;D ;D They suggested I check out both clubs to see which one I like best. Even though I have not been to the Mitcham one I still prefer the one in Wimbledon. ;D ;D ;D ;D
