Hi, Folks.

My Fiancee rescued a Feral Pidgeon last August. Since then "Olly" has grown into a wonderful fully fledged Pigeon. He has his own very large cage, and has total freedom of the flat.

Since a very young age, Olly has shown all the signs of being male. The 'strutt', 'fanning' and doing the usual things that we males do. (except drive badly  ;D). However. On Sunday we noticed an egg in her cozy bed. Then later that night, another appeared. Of course, my Fiancee and I were totally suprised, and very happy.

Is it possible that we could have a male/female pigeon, or will these eggs be infertile?.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ian

Strutting, sweeping and tail-fanning are traits of both the male and female pigeon.

Its very hard sometimes to tell which is which but you have cast iron proof now - males don't  lay eggs, so you have a hen.  ;D

Hi.

Thank you all very much for your replies.  :)

Actually. Olly did get close to me on February 14th, but we didn't do anything.  :D

Thank you all for explaining things.

Our only thoughts now are what to do with the eggs. She's still sitting on them, and we haven't got the heart to remove them yet.

This is a great forum.

All the best,

They won't hatch and she'll sit quite happily for around 24 days before abandoning them.

LEAVE HER TO IT SHE WILL BE HAPPY THEN  :) OR IF YA WONT M8 BUY AN EGG FROM A FANCIER AND SLIP IT UNDER HER THEN YA CAN HAVE 2 PIGEONS THEN WEN SHE COMES TO OLD AGE YOU WILL HAVE A YOUNGER BIRD  ;)GD LUCK M8

LOL. Thanks, chaps.

We've left Olly alone, and when she decides to not bother with the eggs anymore, we'll remove them from the cage. Of course we'll keep them for novelty purposes.

All the best,

Ian
