Okitsme Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Hi Peeps, When would you guys say I should let my pigeons out? I got them in my loft on Saturday at about 6ish pm and the second lot about 5pmish on Sunday. Do you think if I opened the loft today they will be gone? Wot should I do? Thanks David
timbarra Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 hi david, i would keep the youngsters in the loft for at least 4-7 days and then let them out about 6 ish in the evening, regards spence
Okitsme Posted May 29, 2007 Author Report Posted May 29, 2007 Thanks Spence, I was thinking that but the itch to let them out and see them fly is really getting hard to control. I really cannot wait to open the loft and off they go but at the moment I think that is exactly wot they will do. Go off and never come bak. It would kill me.

You must keep them in for at least a week if they are sqeakers, how are they hard to control your loft looks nice and spacious, you should leave them to settle in, are you too keen and disturbing them all the time?
timbarra Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 david , keep going into the loft , keep a calm demeanor about yourself , talk to them touch them and let them know your their friend, they will know you best that way . do not be in a rush david as you can set yourself back a whole year if mistakes are made. spence p.s you got a rare commodity ....... inteligence!!! use it wisely.
Okitsme Posted May 29, 2007 Author Report Posted May 29, 2007 Thanks Guys, I try and keep away from them and only sit and stare at them through the bars. I look like a peeping tom or something. They are a bit more relaxed that when they first got there. I can now walk up to some and touch them with them flying off. I will probably have to wait until the weather becomes decent before they can go out. Thank tho.

Sorry my mistake, I thought the pigeons were hard to control and as pointed out by one other member it is your itch thats hard to control dum De Dum Dumb
Ronnie Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 when the time to let them out comes dont force them out let them find there own way.Just leave the door open and sit in the garden they will xplore and come out when they are ready.
Guest Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Use your time to get a bit of control over them, before they go out. Call them down to the feeder when you feed them. If you feed twice a day then they are being 'trained' twice a day for 10 days. They'll then know what you are calling them in for, and respond better. Do you have a basket? I have open door just like yourself and like to show the YBs the way in thro the door before I let them out on their own. After the last group has been in your loft 7 - 10 days, put them in a basket and let them sit outside in full view of the loft front for around 30 minutes - then take them out one at a time and let them fly from your hand thro the open doors into the loft ... walk towards the door and be right in front of it before you let the bird go tho - could end up anywhere. Bit old fashioned, but its a 4-in-1 job: gets birds used to basket at an early stage; lets birds see front of the loft; the way in; and also gets them used to other birds coming thro that door when they are inside, on the floor - which can give them quite a fright - until they get used to it.
Okitsme Posted May 30, 2007 Author Report Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks Bruno I am thiking of waiting till the weather lets up before letting them out which should be after the weekend.
