Astropigeon Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 I don't have a pigeon yet, and I may be in 6th grade, but I love pigeons. Ever since I saw an Animal Planet special on carrier pigeons, I've wanted one. Well, I asked my mom about it, and she said unless I can build my own loft, No pigeons for me. I mean, my heart aches for a pigeon, but I don't know how the easiest way to build a loft is!!! Where do I get blueprints? Is there homemade things that could work until I have a real loft? I live in a rental, so permanence is out of the question. Is there a way to make portable quarters for a pair? Where do I get the pigeons? I hope someone can help me!!! - Astropigeon

Peckedhen Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Hi Astropigeon, Snowy converted a large, secondhand rabbit hutch into a mini loft for his first birds. It would have to be plenty big enough for the birds and then, if you get two young birds you can home them so that they need not be confined. You would have to make sure that it was cat proof though and get it up off the ground in some way. Here's a link to a photo of Snowy's loft: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1124402996/s-0/ Peckedhen

MsPigeon Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Hi Astropigeon, I live south of Seattle near Aberdeen. I belong to a club in Centrailia, but there are lots of clubs nearer you. And if you join a club and a national Organization like the American Racing Pigeon Union (AU) they have "Help a Beginner Programs". Here are some site to check out: http://www.pigeon.org/index.html http://www.racing-pigeons.com/ http://www.clubresults.homestead.com/ http://www.racingpigeonmall.com/ But I would be happy to gift you birds if you get a place for them and have your parents permission. Carol
Astropigeon Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 Thanks. I'll inform you when I have a loft.
