Guest Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 VIEW FROM THE REDDINGS AI UPDATE There have been two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 in commercial poultry flocks in the Czech Republic. Highly pathogenic H5N1 has also been detected in wild birds in Germany and the Czech Republic. Whilst DEFRA has not indicated any changes to the licence conditions as yet developments over the next few days may mean some kind of review but until and unless you hear to the contrary then I am advised by DEFRA at midday in Tuesday 3rd July it is business as usual. That means maintaining the high level of biosecurity measures at loft and club. If there is any change to the situation the DEFRA website is always a great source and I will use the e mail chain to advise members registered with me and update the RPRA website too. French Liberation Site Closures The French Colombophile has announced that the following sites are not available for the rest of the 2007 season Niort 5033, Fougeres 5064, St Malo 5072, St Nazaire 5075, Picauville 5038. The Racing Support Team has advised all organizations due to liberate at these sites so if distances are required for alternative sites please get these to us as soon as possible. Old Bird Season – Lib Site invoicing We will be invoicing organizations in the next couple of weeks with the old bird race programme for liberation sites. If there are any changes to race programmes that organizations originally submitted please advise Linda or Donna in Racing Support by 18th July. ETS Introduction I am hearing that some organizations are introducing a domestic rule to say that ETS is not allowed to be used in their organization. This is not acceptable. RPRA rules state that RPRA members are allowed to use ETS at all levels of competition and so domestic rules cannot state otherwise. South West Region Secretary I regret to advise that the South West Region Secretary Joe Nutt is very poorly in hospital. Should you have any issues that the region secretary would need to deal with please contact the Region President Colin Bateman on 01779 951 2636 until further notice. Should you need to write to Colin his address is 284 Romney Avenue, Lockleaze, Bristol BS7 9TD. Our thoughts are with Joe and his family at this difficult time. Registration of Foreign Rings We are receiving reports that members are purchasing foreign rings (and a lot of Polish rings) from eBay and then placing them onto British bred racing pigeons. Members are respectively reminded that RPRA rule 96 states that birds must be rung with a ring from the country of origin. A reminder also that foreign ring registration is now 75p per ring card plus an SAE. If registered with us then foreign rings will be party to our stray reporting system. Transfer forms Members are reminds that the old style triplicate transfer forms can still be used until further notice if you wish. You will receive a new style form on receipt. Transfer costs are £1.50 per form by cheque please which now includes postage. Peter Bryant General Manager
