I would always try to keep it as natural wood if possible (the Janssen way) this lets the wood breath. - If I was to paint the loft, I would paint it a shade of red (Red Cedar) this apparantly has a calming influence on the birds (alot of poultry farmers use it to prevent fighting and plucking).

the best paint for inside loft is MAISONARY paint, it dries quick and has no smell. and you get it in white, sand or grey which is good for inside loft, also it fills in any cracks, i used it once on my landing board, put the paint on and when still wet sprinkle sand on it,

Putting the sand on, would this not make it harder to scrape?

Plenty of nasonary paint so might use that, cheers,

But due to chickadees standards there will be no cracks, she gets enough of them from Tammy and Sammy, the crackpot twins ;D ;D ;D

yes u would not be able to scrape it with sand on it, i meant sand on the landingboard, but maisonary paint is good for inside the loft.

the canary boys allways paint the inside of their show boxes a light blue ,, ihave done this b4 in the w hood cocks loft,, seems to have a calming effect on them

;Dthe inside of all my lofts is green , (dulux kitchen & bathroom ) can wipe it over with a baby wipe to tidy it up from time to time .  ;D i do remember Bilco in an article had painted inside yb loft black ...... now that would keep em calm .                                                                       andy  ;D
