ch pied Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 good thread this one , ... (1) speed up the moult :(2) help them through the moult option 1 your asking for trouble down the road ,if they stick you will have a job kick starting it back in, ie pulling flight's, and the excessive use of sedecol and a few other products that are out there. option 2 as previous poster's have stated , butter milk /with hold water/small seed's / lot's of bath's /good moulting mix / and rest , not kicked out twice every day ,come hail wind rain or snow, I GO FOR no 2
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Yes it would.Lots of feed compannies do special moulting mixes too and of course some people swear by just plain barley. I use a lot of barley after racing is finished , and this is the main feed with tic beans, been okay in the past so will be ok in the future
Guest Silverwings Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 moisten mixed canary seed with olive oil and dry with brewers yeast powder, given every day before the main feed ,and elderberry juice through the water ,think the moult is the most important time of the year ....ray
mark Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 long before all these fancy breeding mixes came along how did you feed your birds after the last race.
Guest Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 beans and more beans and always gave them beans a tit bit as well ,then when onto these new continemtal mixture which maybe ok for the widoowhood flyer but a think beans are a must for distance flyers and young birds are so much better reared on beans ,especially HP ;D ;D ;D
Guest Vic Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 DO YOU USE ANYTHING TO HELP SPEED UP THE BIRDS MOULT ? ALF TOLD ME HE USES BUTTERMILK ON FEED AND HE SAYS THE FEATHERS FALL VERY FAST NOW, ANYBODY ELSE USE THIS OR SOMETHING ELSE TO HELP THE BIRDS ALONG THE MOULT ? OR DO YOU JUST LET THEM MOULT NATURALLY ? To help our birds speed up! would be a more appropiate subject, as most will agree. Moult is a natural process, that needs feed and rest. Isn't it about time you went into hibernation. ;D ;D ;D
southbankhs Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 i have used buttermilk for last 2 years on the moult with linseed also added to a good moulting mix all darky youngsters on last flight at xmas and gone through great moult if in good health
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Over the last three days I have used garlic in the water and the amount of small down feathers to moult off is unbelievable, so think garlic must really help the process.
