Hi i know racing has just stopped, but already i am thinking & questioning which cock to which hen should i pair together next year ??

any theories or tips on best approach / selection i.e.

do i simply pick best racing hen to race racing cock ?

maybe relative to size ?

maybe colours ?

what about eyes ?

i have previously paired my best couple up and then let the rest run together, i really want to put a lot of effort into it for next year, any thoughts would be appreciated !!!

hi trapper,,,good post,, the good thing about it is weve all winter to think about it,, we can allways change a pairing on paper , so nows the time to be thinking of it, i think most fanciers have different veiws , mostly i would say best to best , but theres inbreeding , line breeding , im sure   lot of fanciers will give their veiws

i always find i breed a good yb brother sister pring or mother son ect small hen to a large cock works well for a good balanced yb aswell i never pr for coulour and dont no enough about eyes to pr this way

what i like to do in winter is write how my breeding couples sound on paper, just something i like to do to try and make sure theres at least 1 winner in each generation, to create a gene pool. I love to make a gene pool of winners were if you go back each generation has at least one winner. The blending of genes is a marvellous thing.  ;D ;D

i have had success in mating an inbred hen of one winning family, to an inbred cock of another winning family  :)

i think this is the way forward but when you get it wrong youve wasted your yb season
