Guest slugmonkey Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Someone said that they thought that some loft vetrens had attained that status by just simply posting to attain a high number so they would be advanced in rank why dont we start a sub forum on loft vetran rankings using the survey system it would work like this or you could rank sellers or buyers the same way !!!
madmaxlofts Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 does it realy matter, i thought this site was a bit ov fun and to gain a few freinds ,and to give and recieve any help thats is needed in relation to pigeons.
DOVEScot Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Someone said that they thought that some loft vetrens had attained that status by just simply posting to attain a high number so they would be advanced in rank why dont we start a sub forum on loft vetran rankings using the survey system it would work like this or you could rank sellers or buyers the same way !!! Slugmonkey it was me that said it I stand by the statement because it is true That does not mean all veterans are rank, but the plain and simple truth is that on this site you attain the rank of veteran by the number of posts you post, not by any other means So it does not matter if you post ten of the the best help pigeon related topics known to man then you are just a newbe If you come on the site and talk utter crap 500 times then you become a veteran, some people might think I am one of them, because I like some banter, but I have been part of a number of interesting posts as well Salmonella, Meningitis, Loft hygiene, and many more and have learned a lot from it, and along the way made mistakes like anyone else I have also met and made some very good friend on the site as well The old saying, you can do good all your life, but if you get caught making love to one sheep then that's all people will remember you for, "polite version" ;D Best regards DOVEScot
Guest Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I don't think Richard intended this 'ranking' facility to be anything other than a bit of fun. If there is any doubt about its meaning, then in my iopinion it should be removed completely. I certainly didn't know what it meant when I first joined, and I was surprised that some [ it wasn't just you DoveScot ;D ] thought it was a ranking from 'ignore' to 'o esteemed & venerated wise one'. After all, nobody knows nothing and nobody knows everything, and in my opinion everyone has something to contribute. Don't think it matters who posts, what matters is what's in them.

DOVEScot Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Not sure what it actually means either could mean from the amount of time you been member of the site or as said how many posts you made dont think it was meant to be taking that seriously I am honestly not being funny Rose, but I do not understand this comment can you explain please
DOVEScot Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I meant not sure how you become a veteran dovescot see im not one yet so that certainly counts age out ;D It's simple Rose you post 500 or over times you become one, surely you knew this as a moderator of the site Obviously different if you are a distance fanatic or other type of fancier
Guest Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Why remove it, if it started as a bit of fun then it raises valid points then it should stay:-/ My opinion only, but surely anything that is obviously misleading, possibly counter productive and certainly open to misuse needs to be looked at again to see if it's still a relevant member's feature . That bit of fun turned serious when someone was seriously misled into believing that X amount of posts gets you elected moderator or the title of 'Dovey the Wise' ;D , and more than one member has seen fit to make derogatory remarks on other members because of the number of posts they have against there names..
Guest Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I be honest no i didnt never really took any notice of it before you learn something new every day ;D ;D ;D if you go to chit chat you can learn more in the quick quiz

Sorry Bruno, but I can't see any comment about moderators and gaining points, certainly never came from me I only referred to posts to become veterans Just to clear a point are you referring to me as Dovey the Wise or just in general terms

Was also another occasion when someone thought it was down to a members vote - another bit of 'fun' in the wrong place that backfired and was taken as serious. No offence intended on the 'Wise' thing. If I'd replied to someone else I'd have used part of their user name + similar term, and rhyming, just couldn't think of any suitable 'D' My point remains the same : a lot of posts doesn't mean that person is some sort of elder on the forum, to be worshipped nor does only a few posts make the person the equivalent of the office cat .. to be ignored

Guest slugmonkey Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 All I was trying to do was lend some credibility to certain posts I remember when I was a newbie I didnt know who to listen to, this would at least give you an idea if some one was generally thought of as sincere or just posting to hear themselves and as far as selling I would think if someone WAS doing something wrong ( or right ) this would ferret out the dishonest ones pretty quick P.S. these poll questions were meant as an example only and in a real situation would be modified to reflect the subject at hand
Webmaster Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 The, Post Groups [Veteran of the Loft!!, Oldbird, Squeaker, Hatchling, In Egg!!! (Newbie), Chipping] are indications of the length of time that anyone has been a member of the forum. Nothing more, nothing less, I just worded them in pigeon terms. The Sprint Specialist, Distance Fanatic, etc., is much the same, just for fun, a little way to differentiate your membership, and converse with likeminded people if desired.
