if you can see them down the chimney,, youll get more than 6ft down with a  "disabled mans arm" this is a device for disabled folks to pick up odds and ends without bending , it works with a trigger at one end and a gripper at the other ,just enough to get round a pigeon and hold it secure, you can get them most lengths [the" disabled mans arm i mean" ;D]
