PRICES OF BIRDS FOR SALE

its funny that cars are mentioned on this thread cos for me it goes back to earlier comments that hav been made about it not being the pigeon but the management !

u could hav the fastest car ever built ....ferrari, honda ,mercedes . . . it dont matter,  if you aint got lewis hamilton to drive it  u is buggered !!

give the greatest racing pigeon in the world to a nob jockey who dont look after/train his birds and it will be last every week,  put a "lewis hamilton" in charge of it and it may just top the fed !!!!!!

I think you are correct in what you are saying but I think you may be way off track and talking about something completely different.

A vintage racing car will be left standing at the start by more modern versions, irrespective if the fastest driver the world is at its wheel, but whoever owns that car probably reckons its still worth more than all the modern ones put together.

The thread is surely about the prices people pay for something - anything - and if they represent value for money, (not what might or might not happen after they buy it.)

The person paying the money obviously thinks so, and his / her reasons for thinking it is value for money might be lost on the rest of us. But irrespective of what we think, they think a whole lot different.

Sticking to birds. If a museum learns of a stuffed specimen of a male 'lesser spotted dumpin skewer' on the market for £10000 , a perfect specimen of a bird that became extinct in 18th century Britain, and it happens to already have in its collection a perfect female specimen , then the value of owning the pair becomes immense .... £30000 is a fair estimate for this £10000 cock.

This cock and hen will never fly out, race or breed, and outside Jurassic Park the museum experts won't ever be able to change that, but they are nevertheless a priceless part of collection, 'and worth every penny'.
